Suggestion: Restore Previous Axis Input Behaviour Before Update 2.55.1.72

Since update 2.55.1.72, War Thunder’s axis-control behaviour appears to have fundamentally changed in a way that negatively affects advanced aircraft control and mixed-input gameplay.

Previously, maximum and minimum axis inputs could overlap independently. This allowed players to apply direct manual control input while still using mouse aim or instructor guidance. The system blended the inputs together, giving players finer control authority over aircraft movement.

After the update, opposing axis inputs now cancel each other out instead of overlapping. In practice, this means:

  • manual axis input loses authority,
  • aircraft increasingly follows mouse aim,
  • hybrid-control techniques no longer function correctly,
  • and advanced control methods have become significantly less responsive.

This is especially noticeable when combining:

  • mouse aim with keyboard axis controls,
  • joystick with mouse input,
  • rudder correction during mouse flight,
  • helicopter fine adjustments,
  • or manual override during instructor-controlled flight.

The result is that player control now feels “locked” to the instructor or mouse aim system instead of allowing partial manual override.

This change has affected:

  1. Air Battles
  • harder to perform fine manual corrections,
  • reduced precision during evasive manoeuvres,
  • less responsive rudder and roll control,
  • degraded hybrid-control playstyles,
  • and overall loss of direct aircraft authority.
  1. Ground Battles
This issue also affects ground gameplay because aircraft control in Ground RB relies heavily on fast mixed-input corrections during close air support and evasive flying.

Players who previously used overlapping axis inputs for:

  • low-altitude manoeuvring,
  • CAS attack alignment,
  • helicopter hovering,
  • and defensive flying,
now experience reduced responsiveness and greater instructor dominance.

The issue is not simply “controls feeling different.” The core problem is that simultaneous opposing axis inputs no longer blend together as they previously did.

Request:
Please restore the pre-2.55.1.72 axis-input behaviour, or at minimum add it as an optional setting.

Possible implementation:

  • “Legacy Axis Blending”
  • “Allow Overlapping Axis Inputs”
  • “Manual Axis Override Mode”

This would preserve the newer system for players who prefer it, while restoring advanced control functionality for players who relied on the previous behaviour.

Several community bug reports already point toward this same underlying issue, indicating this is not an isolated complaint but a broader control-system regression affecting multiple playstyles.

War Thunder’s flight model depth is one of the game’s greatest strengths. Allowing players to retain precise manual authority over aircraft controls is important for both realism and gameplay quality.

Man, I miss letting go of shift & throttling up instantly.
Yes, I still have Shift + W/S set to pitch & W/S set to throttle with S being throttle up.
