Sounds like Conway is a heavy tank to me.
Nah, cause Conqueror is “Tank, Heavy No. 1, 120 mm gun”.
The difference is Conway is just Heavy Gun.
Without wishing to be obstinate I haven’t seen the full name anywhere but the TE article. It could be incorrect, or missing a comma.
It’s not referred to as an SP, the usual giveaway for a British TD.
I don’t think using each nations individual designations to determine the class of a vehicle in-game would be a good idea
A lot of vehicles that currently are considered as light or medium tanks would end up becoming TDs and especially Britains tree would lose a lot of light and medium tanks a lower BRs
Stuff like the Stryker, Booker and Type 16 would become TDs, as they are classified as Assault Guns IRL
The Crusader tanks would become mediums and as you mentioned, the Valentines would become heavies and the Avenger a TD
Thanks to the spawncost system this would be a nightmare for many nations and losing light tanks would hurt a lot
The current class system isn’t perfect, but “historical” classifications would be even worse
i think it could work but, gaijin…
There definitely is a lot of room left and by making more use of folders that room could be used even more effectively
It would get pretty messy over time, but that’s going to happen to all the larger TTs at some point, unless Gaijin completely reworks the TT system
They’re already hitting that point now in the British tree. Where’s any British light tank/armoured car between 3.3 to 7.3? That space has been taken up by South African vehicles.
Another reshuffle? Must be a New Zealand subtree!! 🇳🇿 rahhhh New Zealand rahhhhh
Hitting what point?
There is plenty of room for British light vehicles to be added
they aren’t i have a redone subtree on the way that fits MANY more Za vehicles in while sticking to gaijins rules.
@Stona_WT I’m sure you’re watching but I’ll upgrade this to a ping; the feedback to this change seems to be very negative, in particular regarding the Conway move and change of vehicle class.
Will the alternatives discussed in this thread be considered? Conway is definitely either a TD or a Heavy, and the response to retaining it in the TD line has been positive.
making conway a medium when its a TD at best is really really stupid.
the rest is ok but not great
It’s possible there’s an error, but I doubt it. Why would Conqueror be called Heavy No 1, if Conway was classified as a heavy before it? Conway was an interim tank in order to get the 120mm into service faster, much like how the Caernarvon was an interim tank to get that hull into service faster.
Charioteer has a similar classification. FV4101 - Tank, Medium Gun, Charioteer.
Caernarvon as well. FV221 - Tank, Medium Gun, Caernarvon.
So the British didn’t consider the Conway as a heavy tank, just a tank with a heavy gun. They also didn’t consider it an SP, which would imply a tank destroyer.
Even worse, it becoming a medium is a nerf
The ammo box allows the Conway to replenish its first stage to keep the rate of fire up
Without the ammo box you end up at ~21 seconds per shot after the first stage is depleted (with an ace crew), with the ammo box you can keep the 15 second reload time up for a lot longer than just 5 shots
It’s not about how many vehicles can hypothetically fit in a maxed out, pipe dream, what-if tree. It’s about realistically how new additions are being considered and implemented while entire roles and niches within the tree have been fully occupied by sub tree content, with equivalent domestic kit being sidelined as a result.
BVVD said in the dev stream that he didn’t like the AS90 and thought it was a pointless/unnecessary addition because it doesn’t bring anything new to the tree, presumably because the role of late cold war 155mm howitzer is already filled by the G6. Smin himself also confirmed a short while ago that once a space within a tree has been filled (regardless whether with domestic or sub tree content) it then becomes a lower priority for future additions in that area of the tree.
This is what domestic British vehicles are competing with - being seen as unneeded additions by the literal game director of war thunder because the role in the tree is already filled by sub tree vehicles.
Why do you think there is no British light tank in the tech tree between 3.0 and 7.7? It’s by no measure a lack of options, its because if vehicles like the Simba 90, Scorpion 90, MCV 90, etc etc are ever looked into by the dev team, they’ll just be considered to be way way down on the priority list on account of the South African vehicles already occupying that area of the tree.
There is nothing that can be done to fix that then
If BVVD thinks that there is no need for such vehicles because subtree vehicles already fill that role, not even nation folders could fix that
I mean
He’s probably referring to how the UK tree already has three 155s already, and with this update will have 5. Only one of which is subtree bee-tee-dubs. The AS90 would be a redundant addition even without the G6, as the M109 fills the same role.
I find it weird even then, as the M109 is 6.3, well, the AS90 is 7.0, that’s a BR gap that makes the two vehicles not that similar.
redundant should be really is an nearly 1-1 vehclie exists at the same BR.
mm perhaps, remember there’s a layer of translation and there’s a chance BVVD just doesn’t like SPHs. So the AS90, which doesn’t have an explicit gimmick (e.g. the G6 is wheeled, the PLZ05 has the funny SAP, other’s have weird chassis etc) and is otherwise just a better in most respects M109, doesn’t feel that special. Epically when by all accounts British vehicles aren’t BVVD’s jam.
It does have an autoloader, something that the M44, M109 and G6 don’t have, but still, the Braveheart would have made more sense, as that also gets a LRF to further differentiate it from Britains current SPHs
This explains so much lmao
