Researching all Al-Khalid variants ever made

Sister post for Al Zarrar

Al Khalid P1

The P1 sported the German-based MTU-396 diesel engine mated to an LSG-3000 automatic transmission while fielding a Chinese-made 125mm main gun, fire-control system and autoloader.

Al Khalid P2

Type 90-II (3rd Prototype)

(looking for pics)

The P2 had a Perkins Condor 1,200 horsepower diesel engine (used in the successful British Challenger MBT series), a French SESM ESM500 (ala the Le Clerc MBT) and western-based fire-control system.

Al Khalid P3 (was chosen as production version)

(looking for pics)

The P3 sported a Ukrainian 6TD-2 1,200 horsepower engine but essentially the P2 prototype.

Al Khalid (base model no ERA)

Al Khalid (Hull ERA + LWS + Varta APS)

Funny lone blocks of ERA behind the APS on the turret roof

Al Khalid I-M?

Al Khalid II (Prototype) mockup

Converted from an Al Khalid or Al Khalid I, has VT-4 type turret face ERA (FY-4?)

Al Khalid P4 was not made because of embargoes

The P4 was given the NATO-standard 120mm main gun tied into a western-based fire-control system along with a German-based MTU-871/TCM AVDS-1790 diesel engine with LSG-3000 automatic transmission. The P4 was intended to become an export product for Pakistan to produce, operate and sell to other prospective global buyers.

Apparently all of them have a LWS (the pole on the turret roof in back) but these here are also LWS components?

I think I have seen a picture of this LWS in a defence expo. I’ll try to find that picture

Apparently the LWS on the Pole is called LTS-1.

The laser warning receivers mounted on top of the mantlet might be a part of this system.

okay then this

must be an older LWS

it could be a part of it

that too, but since they removed these from all other variants… maybe not very important?

Idk
