The massive QoL change would be to allow repairing the damaged vehicle without unlocking the Improved Parts module, but in exchange it would take much longer to complete the repair. Of course reaserching and buying the upgrade would still make the repairs quicker.
It’s extremely frustrating to not be able to fix your vehicle because your team either has no captured points or they’re so far away it’s not even worth going that much distance to repair the vehicle, assuming you are even able to move at all.
Gaijin already gave us one fire extinguisher from the get go, and now it’s time to allow repairing the vehicle without having to unlock the Improved Parts.
whats next you want a free abrams?
I already have them so no :)
btw horrible argumentum ad absurdum tho
this is already a thing, without parts you can repair essential components (tracks, barrel, breech, engine, and transmission) anywhere, sure it doesnt fully repair, but it can still be used, this was added when the one free fire extinguish was added, it used to just I believe just engine, transmission and tracks and also you can repair everything on a capture point even without parts
Getting improved parts is fairly easy as you can get those in 1-2 games. Gaijin is already nice enough to give the ability to repair tracks in stock. Once youre done, then youre done, a minute of repair time just doesnt seem that great to me.
With a “repaired” barrel, Su-122 can’t even pen 40mm
Say, removing the requirement of parts & FPE would be a big quality of life improvement but also in some ways goes against what warthunder is.
In it’s original concept Warthunder is a simulation first, gameplay second type of game. The intended experience of the game was to feel like you are taking part of historical battles like the battle of Kursk or Stalingrad. Some of us now say that Warthunder is dead and died in 2017 when Gaijin started to develop the in a more “mainstream videogame” rather than “history focused simulator” direction. Warthunder nowadays is more fixated on looking realistic than feeling though that is besides the point. In its earlier days warthunder was simpler but also more realistic than now. For example the Tiger II used to have a modifier on its armour making it worse than what the stats say because historically they were made of poorer quality steel at the end of the war.
The reason why you can’t repair your tank is quite simply because; realism. Repairs aren’t done amidst a firefight and takes many hours when done in a workshop. Same with FPE, if your tank is on fire your priority is to get out of it as quickly as possible or risk blowing up.
By your argument, repair kits shouldn’t exist at all. Repairing is a core part of the gameplay and has been since tanks were added (and even before if you consider airfield repairs). Saying it goes against what war thunder is doesn’t make sense. You’ve never had to unlock the ability to repair on the airfield, onlyunlock upgrades to the speed of that repair.
From a gameplay point of view it doesn’t make sense why we have to unlock it as a modification. It is as you say such an integral part of the gameplay that having to research the modification is a hindrance.
My belief why it is a modification to begin with is to give you the realistic experience of not being able repair anything until you get the modification. But no ability to repair is also not fun and so it needs to be a part of the game.
The question is about Warthunder being in a state where gamplay and realism is having to be balanced. And this thread is arguing that after the update where you can repair your essentials even without parts, why not go all the way and be able to repair everything. After which the Parts modification would just make your repairs more efficient since that is how most of the other modifications work. But is this taking away from Warthunders realism side? because after all that is how warthunder is marketed “Realistic military vehicles online combat game”
If I got to chose, free repairs in AB and RB. No repairs in Sim apart from say tracks and some vehicles like the M42 carrying spare barrels.
