Yeah, Id take a longer queue time to get a decent map everytime
Oh… You dont mean “map rotation” in the classical sense of: “for this period of time you can see only these select maps and the MM will randomly pick from them and then next rotation you’ll see a different set of maps”
and rather a fixed rotation of maps that you cycle through
Map 1 > Map 2 > Map 3 > etc etc etc until you play through them all…
To be honest. Id prefer to keep bans even if that is the case. Because the negative side of that is that you also only see the maps you like just as rarely as you see the maps youd hate
No I mean every map WT has ever done or still has in rotation over however long it takes to get through them all be it 12 hours or 24 or whatever.
This is fine as a statement, and I am not going to shout it down or support it because I made this post. It’s a relevant point.
Do you mind seeing the maps you like 3 times in a row though? No problem with that? Just thinking our favorite maps are somebody else’s most hated and there we have the issue and that is something I am looking to overcome with this.
Many players might say a map is map and the skill lies elsewhere. That may be a different debate possibly.
Sversk-13. Not only is it one of the worst maps in the game, I get it waaaaaayyyyy more often than any other map. About half of my gameplay is spent on that turd of a map.
I would get bored of the same map every single time in a row (though that being said. in ASB where I can pick the map, I do tend to pick the same few maps everytime). But I think it would be more accurate to say that I prefer larger maps, where I can engage in actual, long range hull down fire and those are becoming ever more rare. Most of the maps which are COD style CQB fights, I just dont enjoy. Whilst random MM, with only 1 ban, will mean that I will quite often play maps I dislike. I have just as much of a chance to get one of the few maps I do enjoy.
A rotation system where you just work through every map is an interesting concept. You ensure that you do get to see every map at least once, and no chance of getting a map you hate 3 times in a row (which is unfortuantely common I find). So it really swings at roundabouts.
Though even with a fixed rotation of maps system. A ban would not hurt. as it would just be the same as skipping a map.
I really hate Ardennes (Domination mode, the one with the point spread horizontaly),Pradesh,Flandre and Hurtgen,so if i must see it only once a day i’m very okay with that
Trash map rotation sell premiuns due the exclusive ban / Good map rotation dont sell premiuns.
Thats why the map rotation is destroyed and ignored.
In the last three months i saw
Pradesh only once, i play only up to BR 9.3, is that the reason or something else?
Isn’t specific map selection would be better option like you take as example 3 maps to start searching for the match and you have option for + large versions so it would benefit top tier environment much better. I hate to say but it annoys me when you get some map like vietnam 3 times in a row and its not that suitable for that environment im more like desert map lover so it would add big + from me if it happens. Player base keeps increasing so there is no excuse to put system like this :)
I just want to be able to ban Conquest. That would make me sooooo happy!
I’ve previously suggested a map selection similar to counter strike for example, or perhaps several collections of maps (desert, city, arctic etc.) to pick from when queueing. This way everyone can decide if they want to play more of their favorite maps, or have a shorter queue time.
I want more map ban so i can ban all red zones cuted crap ones and all battle modes.
One map ban isn’t enough . We need more actually . Maps need to be re-designed tbh . A lot of bad maps that cause spawn killings as soon as the match starts .
Like makes no direct difference in selection game-to-game. It’s just a popularity indication, that could affect company decisions on which maps to offer, that’s all. Dislikes also have a cumulative effect that reduce the number of times you see that map.
The whole idea it seems, is to lose the ban and maybe even the like/dislike system and have every map of a strict and proper rotation, all of them ,every map Gaijin have and no repeats, thats what im reading anyway. How would it take to get through every map?
If Gaijin removed the map ban but had proper rotation featuring all its maps in rotation, would you miss the map ban?
Yes. There are maps I really don’t like. Holland is a good example because there is really nothing I think a can do as a anti-CQB fan.
Could you live with the map you hate if you only saw it once a day?
Yes! That would be fine.
If the map ban facility went, would it help with rotation?
I don’t think so. But I have to think about it more before I can give a clear answer. Just out of a feeling until now a clear no.
I have the same experience as you with Carpathians! Getting it every 4-5 games it seems…
So horrible map I dont even have words to describe…the fix they didnt make it a whole lot better either!
So, what we know about map selection algorithm:
From the set of all maps, you get the set of maps that are eligible for the BR of that game. Those maps can be weighted for appearance within that selection by Gaijin, so for instance recently Finland had a weighting of “0” and never appeared for a while. Other maps have different relative weighting factors, set by Gaijin, hidden from the players, and these are continually tweaked. If “like” has any effect, it’s here, in that Gaijin could, if they wanted, choose to tweak the weighting to reflect player likes. We don’t know if they do or don’t.
Then, any maps any players in that matchmaker pool have a ban on are excluded.
Then, any maps with a sufficient number of dislikes within the players of that matchmaker pool (the exact number is unknown, but is probably something like 3-4) are also excluded.
Then the RNG kicks in, based on the Gaijin weighting, to assign a map from what’s left.
There definitely seems to be some aspect of the RNG part of the algorithm that leads to repeats of the same map above what you’d expect from random chance, but that black box isn’t open to us.
I get OP’s proposal, I don’t really have a strong opinion on it either way, I’m just trying to describe what we’ve deduced about the system as it is. Because people can clearly see that their like votes have no direct effect, they feel their dislikes don’t either, but Gaijin has told us before this that dislikes do have an impact game to game. You just have to get enough of them in that matchmaker pool.
Thats valuable input and without any real interaction from the devs we are all just firing off suggestions that will be amazing or woefully removed from the physical reality either in terms of problem diagnosis or finding a possible solution. We actually have no idea if Gaijin are working hard to resolve this issue or even view it as an issue in the first place.
How can I miss it if doesn’t work? Have banned maps only to see them appear in rotation.
What I would like to see is the ability to select large maps versus small maps or conquest maps versus domination maps.
