Their reliability is definitely good enough and not something you can’t make up for with another round. Once in a while you’ll get a fluke, but that’s not a factor that should be taken into consideration. 105mm HEAT deals very good damage for the reload M-51 has.
90mm HEATs and lower are somewhat lacking, but only when talking about MBTs like M48, not rat tanks like AML-90, which are supposed to have bad firepower and it’s too much firepower for them anyway.
The tanks you can’t easily one shot are usually the ones you wouldn’t be able to even pen frontally with a normal tank.
That’s exactly what’s wrong with the game.
I agree. I think that it does even more than fine at 6.0 and can be moved up to 8.0.
There is no era or APFSDS at 7.7, you know what’s at 7.7? Maus, IS-4, Conqueror.
APFSDS appear at 8.3, ERA and composite armor at 8.7, which is a problem with BR compression. More for ERA, less for APFSDS, because early APFSDS rounds are worse than HEAT-FS against conventional armor anyway.
The entire point of this post is to say that what you’re saying is a load of shit. The gun is not a dice-roll, it’s a very good gun and the platform is fine.
There is not a single reason for the M-51 stay at 6.0. He is performing better than every other medium or light tanks at 6.0 probably thanks to his insane firepower can deal with uptiers much better than the others vehicles.
This tank just turn heavy armor in a dead weight. Right now should be moved to 6.3 or 6.7.
Most of them were spent spading the tank with beyond bad mobility. I also have a very bad crew for this tank. I played a few battles, got a feel for the vehicle and came to a conclusion that it’s good.
I can play more, but I don’t really see the point. I probably will play it more some time, as it’s a pretty fun, low effort tank for sniping. For brawling it’s not good, but that’s to be expected. As long as you keep a little distance to reload safely, preferably stay hulldown, you will be golden.
Bringing this up as a balancing factor is hilarious.
I think many people just want to have a separate WW2 game and if the M51 was WW2 then I think nobody would have an issue with it to be honest. You can have good games with it you can have bad games. You really need somewhere to hide and then you need not to be in a forest or jungle because of the ammo.
I think many people have an issue with post war and world war.As we are stuck with the M51 at 6BR then all we can do is put up with it ,all things considered it’s about right. The fact we can see it at 5BR is the fault of the tier system not the M51 as such so that is two issues rolled into one, neither of which are going to change.
I think my point stands, this thing is only discussed because everybody knows it is post war and many feel aggrieved by that.I don’t know why as we have many post war Sherman’s in the game as you know.
I just think the M51 upset the eco system and the game play for those who played 6BR regularly. It did feel great to play 6BR now I find it does not, that’s all I can say really.
I can only hope when playing 6BR that I don’t see many M109s,M51s or silly Italian scout cars.
What about the BTRs? They’re post-war but nobody seems to bat an eye on their presence.
I agree with ULQ; That’s an invalid argument. Not a justification for why it should be flung to fight Pattons and IS-type tanks with its paper-thin armour.
It’s not the post war tanks, but the HEAT/HEATFS/APDS rounds, and also the howitzer tanks lobbing 6-10kg explosive shells that can one shot any tank 90% of the time by just hitting the turret face or cupola.
Yes they do actually as for many people they really are a symbol of the cold war.It doesn’t matter if an argument is invalid ,you are still going to see it on here all the time and I am suggesting why that is.
If you don’t own the M51 but for years you played 6BR fine then suddenly you are erupting in a huge explosion one shot from the front and that is the new M51 then you will be unhappy. That is how it was when the M51 came in and that is how it was when Artillery spam landed.
Nothing any of us can do.Many of those suggesting a huge BR leap are simply wishing the post war vehicles away, they dont care about balance.
If you base a post on whether the post will change anything then you may as well scrap 90% of them.
Between this two dont rech the number of battles played by the M-51.
The only comparable in number is the Panther A and M-51 perform better, really is undertiered.
It’s more close to HEAT-FS than standard HEAT shells. The former’s a more real threat but in WW2 of course HEAT was used by the jerries (Hl.Gr.) and a handful of others.
APDS, when it does work, can be a bit of a nuisance but otherwise…
