My input is to only allow reserve destroyers (the ones at 3.3) in and nothing higher than that.
Litchfields, Frunzes and Momis don’t have the secondary armament to repel boats but the other reserve destroyers like the Leopard and Vega do. With some skill and strategic planning you could take down a destroyer with say a Komsomolets or Dark Aggressor. but you’d need a lot of balls to just straight-up charge at them and win.
Alas, but what about the parable of the frigates? The Spey, Mirka and Ikazuchi among others? They can take the role of the destroyers but that’d present an additional problem; Their secondary armament. Who can counter them if the destroyers can’t? I haven’t thought up of a way to counter them unfortunately… Perhaps I will update it once I have.
A heavy boat spawn could fix the problem of Brantfords and Draches spawning among the smaller guys; an intermediary between a destroyer spawn and standard boat spawn.
I agree! Perhaps if you can ambush an unsuspecting Momi with it, it is possible and thus could be considered a David vs Goliath moment. Now, I do not intend on bragging but I’ve killed a Hawkins with a Pr.123K and one killed me whilst I was in a Baden.
Tbh i think the frigates should also be in the blue water. They are heavily armed can fight other equiv destroyers. I really cant find a good reason to ahve anything higher than Reserve Blue water in Coastal. Only think that has a “chance” at a Frig/Destroyer are the torp boats with balls of steel.
USS Coolbaugh has the armament Equiv to a 4.0 Destroyer with 1 less 5 inch you could just stick it at 3.7 bluewater and it functions and holds its own
So we have a broken game mode…made worse by players not playing because its broken. You cant enjoy Coastal because the team with more destroyers wins. You cant enjoy Blue water because players dont play because the game mode is terrible with maps and other problems. atleast with removing the Destroyers makes Coastal playable and dare i say…FUN.
Well US is a small majority anyhow. But thats the line im in so those are the 2 that i brought up. I only play AB boats when RB isnt poping because it seems more “full” for coastal But that doesnt change the fact of most my matches in the 3.3 coastal are 15+ Destroyer players.
When i play Bluewater im a realistic player because those japanese Torp spams get real…real fast.
This is an RB-specific thread here. I wouldn’t be surprised that AB is far less balanced in this area, seeing as that’s generally true across the board anyway. But yeah, the smaller/lighter/“sneakier” Coastals would almost certainly be doing worse in a mode where everyone is spotted 24/7, among other reasons.
It was jsut the game mode i was playing at the time my guy because realistic wasnt poping. Also you cant show the players Vehicles in Realistic so i was using it to specify a point. Its the same in RB as AB. If you get a realistic game it ust turns into Mini Blue water.
It is not. I’ve been playing a ton of 2.x BR over the past few months, and the most you’ll ever see is two or three DDs per team, and even then many are named bots. I’ve found it to be quite an enjoyable BR range, actually.
Destroyers are usually avoidable for coastals, except for the crappy harbour maps with no cover, or the coral islands one, new zealand is also bad.
It’s the SKR-7s that are the real issue for coastal and similar boats. Because I can literally park my Koln f220 out of spawn protection range and just nail you as soon as you leave the single spawn area. Can also do this with the PR206 and other similar aids boats.
If a destroyer comes, I rake the deck and hide, then harass them until they are dead or go. If they come close they get Sturmtiger/250kg bomb equivalent ASW or two to the bridge and a turret/ammo rack and die.
Oh yeah, got a plane? Yeah good luck, Koln can kill you 10-12km+ away. Arguably the best AA platform in the game.
Some destroyers can be similarly painful but not quite as bad as the frigates which can get into shallow water areas.
Honestly, splitting bluewater and coastal would be cool.
Forget about 2.x or 3.3, the reserve destroyers suck and hardly anyone plays them so its no suprise theres debate over how much they appear.
Just yesterday I tried to play coastal 4.7… worst mistake of my life. Oops, all destroyers! there were zero other coastals. Same happens at lower BRs, even down to… .well 3.3 I suppose lol. The frigates are iffy but they tend to be both super slow and aside from a few with APHE a lot of them are stuck with HE. I can say the Syonan at least is stuck with HE, 2x120mm guns, as well as a far distance spawn making it downright painful to play.
Personally I’d also like to see more development of coastal into more modern things like frigates and missile boats, and leaving bluewater for big boi battleships but thats a different matter entirely.
Why is this surprising? If you’re firmly into BRs that have Bluewater ships you’re going to see a lot of them. Or more precisely, BRs do not care about “Bluewater” or “Coastal”, those are just split for research reasons, much like how Rank has zero to do with matchmaking. If you’re playing at 4.7 you will see 4.7 vehicles, full stop.
If you think a given vehicle is too high in BR, that’s its own issue, but has nothing to do with which research tree it’s in.
All Japanese destroyers have only HE as well.
Shounan is a 3.3, so if we compare her to also-3.3 Mutsuki/Satsuki, yeah, she’s much slower, lacks torpedoes, and has one less gun of the same calibre.
This is a compression issue, not a “Coastal” issue. What we really need is the devs to bring over the different-aircraft-BRs-per-mode system to Naval, so all the Cold War jets (etc) can be bumped up, then all the ships can be decompressed upwards.
I agree it can get quite fustrating. played 3 games today at 3.3 had 10 players actually which was cool except it was all destroyers and me putting around in a PT gunboat around A-B with actual players to fight.
Well, yeah I know if I play 4.7 coastal itll be all destroyers. Thats the point I was making - it makes higher tier coastal dead in the water. The issue is 4.7 PTs rip apart other PTs but do nothing against destroyers, so one can’t exactly move them down.
Also, Mutsuki/Satsuki and Momi even have SAP on their 120mms, not just HE, so they are hands down better for everything but AA… which, again, is the point that I was making. The capabilities given to Bluewater and Coastal are incredibly different, even at the same BR and for similarly sized ships. It makes sense to split them as opposed to do some weird juggling.
I agree with the statement. Like BRs for Rock paper scissors. If its a wooden PT boat why is it sitting 3.7 when its be armament is a 40m Bofor against Destroyers and Ships with 30mm autocannons.
