Regenerative Steering Feedback and Discussion

Please yes. Please please please.

And not just realistic, across the entire game.

Tanks irl stopped to clutch steer mostly after ww2, because they became heavy… Its a specific ability of some tanks (tho, I do not really know which ones, devs just said that most don’t have it, without specifics).

They just should improve autogear, so players will be able to choose a lower gear for smaller radius without the need to completely stop the tank. As you can do with manual transmission option.

Its not a “control mode”, not a driver’s ability to steer that way or another. Its a specifics of different transmissions

In that case, can I just toggle -60km/h reverse for my T-90M?

Wait, they did not specify turn radius for every gear? How then every differential in the test is different…

The turning radius is automatically calculated based on the ratio of the main gear to the neutral gear.

If the neutral gear is 10 and the main gear is 5, the turning radius is twice the vehicle width.
If the neutral gear is 10 and the main gear is 2.5, the turning radius is four times the vehicle width.

Track brakes not working is intentional. They even say it in the devblog:

This would be the end for many nato players. A lot of nato players already have problems with unrealstic casual aiming, imagine them taking in account realistic position of gunner’s sight

I don’t like this the way it is implemented.
Tanks can’t turn corners anymore and before anyone says about brake, CC this and that try doing all of those in an actual engagement and you will find out that its either you focus on your tank’s movement or focus on shooting the gun.

Driving a tank should be the most simple thing in the game and adding variables like this makes things worse when fighting something without regen steering

at least based on the videos I can find it seems like the Leopard can turn just as sharply or widely with as much speed lost or kept respectively as the driver wishes to

Is there a reason it should not?

that is more or less what I meant with “irl it is possible to do one thing but also the other” because the machine isn’t fixed to only do one thing but nothing else

There are huge differences between tanks right now, not to mention the auto transmission not behaving correctly and other bugs.

Look at the other thread in the Official news, thanks to an user mission I posted a video about the SEP V3, it’s WAY better than the Leo 2.

This is just because the driver uses the brake pedal to slow down whilst turning, which we can’t do in game (yet)

  • No matter how you tune the automatic transmission, it won’t solve the issue with the massive turn radius.
  • With manual transmission, you can downshift in advance to somewhat reduce your turning circle. An automatic transmission simply can’t do this, as it has no way of predicting what you’re about to do.

Watching your test drive videos is honestly absurdly hilarious! You’re literally just driving along a pre-planned route specifically chosen to hide all the flaws of this mechanic. In actual combat, this feature is going to cause far more frustration than enjoyment, and you’ll see it for yourselves once the devs let us test it in REAL battles.

so hes good at driving unlike you? you too can plan 5s ahead before taking a turn. which you obviously arent doing in your clips.

When Gaijin launches the test for this mechanic on the live servers, I’ll open up your replays and watch how you manage your tanks ;)

Gaijin won’t launch this mechanic on the live server since there are a few bugs to fix before that happens. And of course you used the Strv, the absolutely worst tank in your video, the one that has the most unrealistic turn radius by far. The SEP V3 can easily take that turn at full speed “drifting”

Automatic transmission can be fixed, the reason for the massive turn radius is because the tank is using 5th-6th gear even at 20 km/h…

Sorry for picking a tank that actually highlights the flaws of this mechanic.

More like nitpicking the ONE tank that everyone has acknowledged to have a flawed implementation riddled with issues that must be solved before making proper judgement.

And also, even then, that turn would have been ABSOLUTELY viable if only you had given it a second worth of thought instead of just pressing A at the last second at full speed expecting an instantaneous 90° turn.

Could use improvement in regards to the auto shifting speeds of the transmissions and various bug fixes like you mentioned, but a MASSIVE improvement over the current system, at least in the type 10, Leo 2s feel a little clunky, but they are a metric shit ton heavier and physics is what it is

yeah… god forbid you actually think 3 seconds ahead and don’t just drift 40 to near 80 ton war machines down the street like it’s an over Euro beated anime:

know GIF

because it’s an actual thing on SOME tanks

because the crappy steering has been destroying top tier on several MBTs, like the Type 90/10 and CR2s for years, this if fixing it, your inability to find the brake pedal is a you issue.

Guy that thinks using the brakes is too hard says what? people like you got engine steering removed from naval and I wish your feet poke out from under your blanket every night FOREVER and your pillow always be a little too warm!

There you go, the M41 Bulldog is literally perfect. If this tank can behave like this then there is zero reason they can’t fix any other. This whole video was just holding W, I didn’t even have to brake
