GBU-53 also outranges IRIST SLM by nearly 3x

IRIS-T yes
but your message seemed to not take into account the fact that IRIS-T is just the beginning of SAM capabilities increase, not its end
Regarding JASSM it’s a big missile that can’t really be used in big numbers, so “volley” is a strong word. At one point you would need to chose between carrying those, the HARM or the aforementionned GBU 53
You could maybe carry a mix (i won’t pretend i know all possible configurations) but it would imply a sacrifice in the quantity carried for each type of vector / effector
F-15E can take up to 5 JASSM with 8 GBU-53. they can also fly low and are stealth
“Stealth” against a state of the art SAM AESA isn’t really going to cut it, especially if the missile has to get close.
Considering its speed and range, the game might as well be over by the time it hits, and it can’t even retarget if the SAM moves, it only gets an IIR for final adjustment just like other missiles of its class, such as SCALP/Storm Shadow
you dont have to go that far away though, the main benefit is that you can shoot them low and they will stay low until the end which gives the enemy less time to react and fire off all 5 missiles to intercept them
or i can just move the moment i see the “volley” arriving ?
Besides, the launcher would need to know where i am first, which means he would first have to expose himself to my radar.
If i see someone going up, not firing, and then dipping to the ground, my first solution is simply to move.
Flying low is also quite dangerous, as it is a very topography dependant strategy, and as you get closer, the chances of eating a missile in the face if you make one wrong move increase quite drastically
they have decently sized warheads, since the missiles are jet powered they wont have smoke trails at low alt, you will just see a contact pop up and dissapear. they can send the missiles at you spawn region with the map targeting feature
there is also SPEAR 3 which will be a huge issue to deal with in AA
won’t cut it if i move just 100m
Same issue as GBU53, you need altitude to get all the range, and you expose yourself in doing so
Spear 3 has 140km range when its fired from decent altitude and speed which is more than enough to deal with Spaa’s.
If you can know their exact impact location then sure, otherwise it will be gamble for you.
at 140km a state of the art SPAA can still get you
of the top of my head, Patriot, S-X00 series and SAMP/T can at least get to those range, and can acquire a lock before you launch (when the enemy plane reaches around 2000m of altitude if gaijin models earth’s curvature)
Now even if you don’t get killed, and considering spear 3 speed of around 330 m/s (high subsonic), that i will simplify to 1km for 3s, your missile will reach your target 420s (or 7 minutes) after drop, rendering them basically as useful as a Type 93 torpedo in naval (except type 93 at least got explosives).
So not completely useless, but almost
Making airfields as protected as polar bears would warrant the same thing happening to ground spawns, otherwise I can’t support it.
Thankfully SLM isn’t really a long range system, so you should be comparing those with Patriots and it’s contemporaries.
WT players are so accustomed to CAS outranging AAs that they end up comparing things like you did.
They could add multi vehicle CRAM type SPAA, that would be neat.
If your gonna talk about long range, what happens with long range cruise missiles and the most modern ones which can target a lot better
I’d like a C-RAM defending my spawn from AGMs that planes defecate on me the moment I spawn. Wishful thinking though.
Like SPEAR 3 ?
That thing requires a whole ice age to travel from it’s maximum range, making it susceptible to interceptions.
If GRB doesn’t drastically change before that, I’d see how a 70km 38MT would be a better missile overall.
I don’t think power switched hands as 38s still exist.
What’s not balanced ?
Both sides can now spawn camp each other.
And get deleted by a ground unit before you even see a plane, as you’re operating three literal busses.
Indeed if we consider it’s going to go against things like SLM which is in a typical WT fashion.
If your team isn’t made if noob players you will not die to ground units.
So your claim depends situation.
Only one nation that has access to those munitions while others has far worse.
Also SLM can intercept both KH38 and firin platforms.
Considering teams fold in line five minutes on the regular, there’s a very big chance that your team will be infested with noobs.
SLM is also limited to only Germany.
They can get intercepted but with various success, at least if others are to be believed.
I doubt SLM can kill 30SM that just slings off 38MTs at like 20km away and starts maneuvering.
I’ll say that SLM was a massive upgrade to our AAs, as it doesn’t allow CAS to just sit and relax inside TRACK lock range, so ground units that are moving are now much harder to hit which is a welcome change.
That said, best AGMs can still hold their ground against the best AA, so saying that power switched hands is a bit misleading.
You can still die to enemy tanks that flank and push spawn.
You can still get a shit map with no cover and get sniped across the map.
