Redesign the navy's targeting system to be different from WT Mobile

The old system sucked. I like the new one and if you don’t like it then play realistic.

What do you play, primarily?

Thanks for your vote and input!
No, most arcade players don’t have the time/patience to play realistic battles.
Not a realistic solution for an arcade problem.

Not to mention realistic mode needs work too from what I’ve heard.

At least not in whole targeting system it seems for now.

It does, a lot

Arcade for Blue water & Realistic for Coastal

Counter offer. Make the old Arcade aim system the new Realistic aim system and the current Realistic aim system the new Simulation aim system.
Creating the missing Simulation mode for ships in the process.

NRB barely have players mate, there is no need to split N community even more.

I must agree - the naval playerbase didn’t give the numbers for a third mode

yep. You don’t really notice how much the new aim system takes away from gameplay when you’re in bluewaters. It impacts coastal and light ships the most.

I suspect the bigger and slower the ship, the less those players care about the change.

+1 for an urgent change to the NAB targeting system.

I strongly dislike how the current targeting system redefines the meta.

From the perspective of the coastal fleet (4.3 BR and below), ships like the Aconit, Marne, MPK Pr.122 series, HMCS Brantford, HMS Liscomb, and anything with a detailed model and large-caliber guns (75 mm and above) dominate the gameplay because they heavily benefit from the current system. With Aconit, I can guarantee you can rack up over 15 kills easily, because it requires little to no skill to farm smaller motorboats like snacks, thanks to the pseudo-aimbot. I expect ships like Aconit will get BR increases soon. This is a major flaw that, in my opinion, makes NAB gameplay far more saturated and boring.

Because of this, it’s almost impossible to play motor torpedo boats effectively. You can’t reliably send torpedoes against larger, heavy boats and destroyers unless they’re cornered or not paying attention. They can dead-on aim and vaporize you no matter how much you try to dodge. It usually only takes one shot to cripple or kill you. MTBs are so fragile and die to a few critical hits that it’s not even fun anymore since they’re no longer viable in NAB. Before the pseudo-aimbot system, you could skillfully weave your MTB and punish big ships with torpedoes without instantly dying. That balance is gone.

Another flaw is how the pseudo-aimbot renders the impact of aircraft fruitless in NAB. You’re lucky if you manage to kill more than one boat with a CAS aircraft now. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve been shot down by laser-accurate AA fire while trying to bomb or torpedo a single ship. Aircraft aren’t fun or impactful anymore.

I think we know the pseudo-aimbot system was probably introduced to attract more players to naval in the long term, especially because AI boats now give equal SL and RP rewards as player kills, but it’s come at too high a cost. AI-controlled boats behave like Terminators and even cheat by having buffed ballistics. Their shells noticeably have boosted velocity, so they have an easier chance to land critical hits on us as players.

I’m worried this system will stay forever, but we need to be vocal and push for tweaks. I would prefer a reversion similar to NRB, but with a proper lead marker system and aiming assistance that accounts for ships turning while still leaving enough margin for skilled players to dodge shots.

Right now, if a ship turns to starboard or port, you have to massively drag your aim sideways to land hits at the right time. Most of the time, your hits will miss, so I want a system that allows hits against turning ships but still demands skillful aiming in a somewhat convenient way.

The only positive thing about the current NAB is that slow-firing gunboats with large guns are finally playable. Before, it was a nightmare spading them in rough seas, with shots thrown wildly off target. However, even with that small positive, it still feels like cheating with the pseudo-aimbot. I have very mixed feelings about the current system, but mostly negative, and I believe it badly needs to be balanced toward a middle ground so that gunboats stay playable but MTBs and CAS regain their relevance.

It’s just not fun to play NAB when it boils down to a handful of meta boats and nothing else. The diverse gameplay mix of MTBs, CAS, and coastal combat is thrown out of window and is replaced with domination of meta ships.

Another problem is that their A/A fire are now too damn aqurate.
Even basic untrain crews are snipping boats from well beyond effecive ranges of their weapons.
Also BOTS are all equiped with the equelevant of CIWS and have pin point precision.

Most coastials from 3.3 to 4.0 are in major disadvantage or unplayable due to destroyers able to one shot them from spawn, especially if they are captained by an experinced player.

100% agree with that

Agreed. Rather than addressing the real issues with naval, they changed aiming because “yeah! That’s what new players want!!” In the process they

  1. Made planes in naval nearly useless.
  2. Eliminated the protection speed and maneuverability gave small boats.
  3. Broke shooting over rocks and sandbars.
  4. Broke aiming at turning targets.
  5. Made dying to ammo explosions in as little as one hit the norm.
  6. Removed any need for skill. The learning curve is essentially flat: point and click.

You raise a good point: Satisfied customers rarely tell the company they are satisfied. But look at all the issues tagged Naval: Over 100 in the last two weeks with almost every single one having more than 1 person saying “I have this problem too”. As you scroll through the list of versions, there are very few that have as many dissatisfied customers complaining about the “fixes”. Sure, more complaints in the last two weeks than in the last ~2 years is anecdotal and only Gaijin has the real numbers, but I doubt they look at a graph of complaints over time. (complaints vs $$$'s maybe, but not complaints over time).

Amen brother!

My #1 suggestion for Gaijin would be to play their own game and then they’d see all the problems. A close 2nd suggestion (assuming they’ll ignore the first) is that they beta test their code before pushing to production. I would get fired if I tested my code in production like this.

So isn’t that contradiction?

Isn’t pre patch “meta” ships were even more capable?

Is saturated is boring? I think it quite opposite for me.

Why should strait sailing single boat should be a treat to a massive destroyer in open sea? Why you don’t want to play smart?

How much of them about the bugs that were introduced with over obstacle shooting? How much of them about people doesn’t understand how to aim with new mechanics? And how much of the about that someone don’t like it out of those 100? It’s all different problems.

More not less.

I’m pretty sure the auto aim system hasn’t split the Navy community but almost destroyed it.

Zero bugs. That should be the goal. Not “the same number of bugs as we’ve always had.”
It doesn’t matter if there’s a bunch of people complaining about a few bugs or a few people complaining about a bunch of bugs. The point is there are bugs that are not getting addressed.

I’m trying to understand where you’re coming from, but I’m failing to see your points. Do you think it is better that ammo explosions are the standard way ships die now? Are you arguing that AI shooting down planes the moment they spawn is an improvement? I just…don’t get it. I’m saying naval has some serious issues that are not being addressed. Are you saying they’re not being addressed because there’s no issues? Seriously, give the AI ships in air battles the same aiming as they have in naval and see how many people complain when they start losing their planes in spawn because some destroyer 12km away shoots them down. Then try telling them its a skill issue.

More of a silver lining. I was referring to Soviet Pr. 191s, Japanese Soukou-Teis, and other gunboats with lower freeboards, which were easily affected by rough seas in coastal battles and often outgunned by boats with rapid-firing guns.

No.

Your opinion. My opinion.
