Recon planes for ww2 artillery vehicles

rocket artillery vehicles had a really cool feature recently which was removed and it allowed to correct the impact until the desired spot was hit as it happened IRL with forward observers

however, since it’s removal these vehicles are blindfolded once again and forced to go into enemy LOS which is very unrealistic as irl these attacked from 10km away and were not designed to get that close to the enemy at all, some vehicles such as katyusha or andryusha have it even worse due to the fixed elevation making it impossible to hit anything thats too close which happens frequently due to tiny arcadish city maps, let alone trees and obstacles that make rockets go to waste

this game really needs an artillery class for these vehicles and having them gain access to WW2 recon planes and spotter quadcopter drone in high tier, this would make these somewhat viable cuz right now playing artillery vehicles is really frustrating and moving them to contested capture points to reload is almost certain death, unfortunately in this game you start in a base that has no ammo so youre forced to get into capture point sooner or later

removing ghost artillery calls and making actual artillery vehicles viable for that role should be the way to go idk why this isnt a thing yet, do people really prefer every vehicle being able to spam ghost artillery than having a few artillery vehicles scattered around which you can actually destroy?

Since maps are MUCH SMALLER than 10km, I don’t see how this can be implemented. Artillery vehciles (like the M109) don’t really fit into the game design. So they can engage in direct fire combat if they choose to spawn them. Also many have proximity ammo, so they can attack air units.

Besides not seeing how they can be implemented or why someone would choose to pilot them (RGB I assume) adding more ways to ruin the fog-of-war is not good for the game. We already have scouting drones at higher tier and they are a pain in the butt and can ruin battles.

I guess maybe they can be added so SPAA have something to shoot at.

it doesnt have to be piloted by someone for an entire match but work by the same mechanic that drone uses, this would add more targets into the game for those who use anti air guns (anti air guns are already nerfed with less RP and SL when sucessfully destroying aircraft) this would also make machineguns from other vehicles more useful overall

i dont see why adding these would ruin battles, if you can have drone in high tier it would make sense having recon planes in lower tiers, its not like recon planes werent used in ww2 in fact these were crucial for the planning of an attack and if these dont have any weapons i dont see how it would be overpower in any way lol

I would say rework scout drones and give them to modern arty systems instead of light tanks to use for indirect fire and move them up to a more appropriate BR (IE NOT fighting WW2 tanks with their auto loaders and LRFs), give WW2 arty smoke shells that mark their fall location on the map

wish they added the other rockets used by katyusha, panzerwerfer or callipe so they could make a smoke curtain cuz other smoke shells cant do this fast enough to change the landscape since 1st smoke round will deplete before the 3rd or 4th round

irl panzerwerfer had smoke, chemical and HE
katyusha had fragmentation, HE with improved accuracy and a wearhead with less range but more explosive power
calliope also had other rockets

these vehicle are rare and smoke players are also rare cuz you hardly gain anything for it even through it can change the battlefield in favor or against you at random, in fact most people think throwing smoke is trolling but it can be quite annoying for the enemy too

Yeah, I have seen the odd game or two won because of a smoke wall being thrown down so our team could sprint across a sniper lane to get a point, unfortunately gaijin seems to want to encourage fighting you team as much as the enemy… and there is always that one A-hole that wants to spam all that smoke on their own spawn.
But I would like to see more utility and team support mechanics introduced to many vehicles, like let Huey and Mi-24 helis drop ammo crates into the battle for their team and IFVs carry extra ammo to give team mates rather then the current silly ammo box.
I used to really love this game called “Planetside” if you look up some old youtube vids on that you will see what I mean (and to a lesser extent Planetside 2, it’s probably easier to find).

the implementation of support vehicles carrying ammo boxes, time-delayed bombs and being able to repair team mates faster than normal would be quite fun and if magic boxes were replaced by these it would make way more sense than box appearing out of nowhere

for example one could make a checkpoint with ammo box then seek for them with the next vehicle in your lineup this way you could exchange one spawn for more ammo or scatter it around the battlefield for other team mates to find while the enemy attempts to destroy as many as they can to limit enemy available ammo, time delayed mines would balance itself as people would run away as soon as they spot these things and then attempt to disable them from afar or by risking yourself with the support vehicle to defuse

  1. they had nothing like drones in WW2 that can do what you want them to do
  2. most of the ww2 vehicles are a lot slower than vehicles at the BRs where drones exist. Being spotted long before you get where you are trying to go is what would ruin the battles. Removing the fog-of-war is not a net benefit to the game.
  3. If they don’t have any weapons why would anyone want to pilot them? (see 1 above for your drone aspect)

Your best bet is to hope for more iterations of the ww1 event where zeppelins were filling in that niche you want.

  1. reconnaissance aircraft were used as forward observers in ww2 and these actively took part in battles to spot and map enemy movement for artillery attacks or gather the requiered vehicles for a successful mechanized offensive

  2. being spotted by recon plane is not the end of the world they still have to land a solid shot in a weakspot or be armed with the appropiate caliber which can still ricochet or fail to penetrate the armor, maybe you’ll shot first regardless of recon plane or just caught them vulnerable while they’re immobile piloting the plane

  3. its a recon plane LOL its not mean to attack, im just saying its unfair that there’s drone capable vehicles but no ww2 recon plane available

the zeppelin wasnt allowed as reward for the ww1 event which is unfortunate since these look cool, in the event these things spawned at low altitude and were very vulnerable, irl these things used to fly really high and were not as easily taken down by anti air for the same reason, it’d be cool for a future event reward or event box tbh

It’s not the recon plane that will cause the death directly. It’s the fact the entire enemy team will know where that vehicle is. Adding a scout feature to fighters is OP IMO.

You are missing the bigger picture.

We don’t need more ways to find out where the enemy is - it defeats the purpose of fog-of-war.
It’s why I’m not a fan of recon drones in higher tiers.

just make it so only the recon plane’s owner can see the marker, if they want to notify their team they’ll need to open up the map and click your position for a plain “Attention to the map!”
