The Yapping:
Why does the research penalty even exist? When I finished grinding out my Japan ground tree, I decided to research all the folded vehicles I missed, That’s when I learned about the research penalty, after I got barely research after playing a 12.0 game researching a rank 1 Tank.
But why does it even exist? To get rank 1 vehicles I didn’t research yet, I had to go to rank one to research effectively, and fight players that didn’t know what they were doing, essentially just seal clubbing, Which isn’t fair to the new players, and I don’t like seal clubbing at all, it just isn’t fun for me.
Like, if they had it to make the grind worse, That doesn’t make any sense to me because I have already grinded the main tree so what’s the point.
Like if they removed the research penalty tomorrow, making it that you can research lower tiers playing higher tier games in my eyes the worst case scenario is that like, people might buy more squadron vehicles which wouldn’t really be the end of the world for me. Also, wouldn’t Gaijin make more money if they made it that you can research all the tiers if you bought a Talisman, making more people want to buy it?
Main Question:
Does having the research penalty add any balance to the game? Or is it just an annoying feature?

In higher ranks, you get more rp because of longer matches and higher percentage rewards, so they probably made it so if you skipped a few tanks/jets you couldn’t just play 3 games in top tier and complete those missing vehicles

Research penalties are there to incentivize you to diversify your vehicle playing.

- It enforces players to buy premium time and/or vehicles at different ranks.
- It prevents that any (f2p) player who mastered a certain vehicle and found his personal sweet spot can research a whole tree in a reasonable time frame.
Imho the main issue is also connected to SL/RP multipliers of certain premium vehicles which generate extremely high SL/RP gains - without a research penalty the progress goes way too fast for gaijins taste and would decrease the demand for any other premium.

Don’t forget the actual distribution of RP in this godforsaken game where 3 ground frags get you 600 rp but being in the match for 7 minutes gets you 2700 :) thank you gaijin please fix your game

I really hate research effeciency.
Not only does it mean that premiums loose usefulness for grinding higher BR vehicles, but using higher BR vehicles (with or without a talisman) is also a lot slower.
Its frustrating. I was recently finishing off the grind for Warspite and it was annoying that I couldnt just do a bulk of it in Belfast.
The only reason I can think to keep this system is that it forces you to buy higher BR Talismans or Premiums instead of using existing ones and that is really really annoying
Simple as that - to sell you a premium vehicle that doesn’t have efficiency penalty.
