Realistic loading mechanics: An alternative to the turret basket penalty?

Since people are arguing about the turret basket feature, the driver-autoloader-engine in T series or ZTZ´s, and recent reload buff in these. I found a video in youtube that can maybe change how getting hit affects realistically in manual and auto-loaded tanks.
Manual loaders:
What If, Realistic Shell Reloads?
PD: I would also implement the ability to load or not load. In-game when you fire, you will constantly reload and to not reload, you have to switch ammo types constantly. This would be helpfull in situations when you don´t know what vehicle you will face (light or mbt).
In my opinion if a MBT only have 2 crew, won´t be able to move his cannon while it´s reloading. Meaning a hit would cause the vehicle to have this discapacity instead of the actuall turret basket feature which personally found it unfair.
Now for auto-loaders:
What If, Realistic Autoloaders?
I would like to read everyone opinions about this current problem.
Personally, I would remove turret basket being hit cause a total turret drive dissable. But, adding this mechanics that I mention into the game. Althought, could be modeled in every tank like aesthetic (for example trunions).

Any new reload mechanics wouldn’t replace the module system, it would be in addition to them

I think realistic shell reloads would be too much to keep track of for most players. While better fidelity on the mechanics behind reloading a shell is cool and immersive, it is just not something that needs to be in a game like war thunder.
Realistic autoloaders on the other hand would be workable. It would provide a viable downside to autoloaders that use a gun zero system, besides the already present autoloader damage models and ready racks. In addition, this would allow for other autoloaders that can reload while the gun is not at the zero position to have an additional benifit. (Im pretty sure the stryker uses a system like this)

Better autoloader mechanics would also allow for additional balance changes. (this is hypothetical) For example, the Abrams could be given a 6s reload time ace, while something like a t72 needs to deal with their gun going to zero while reloading. Meanwhile, things like the TTD could keep its reload to help balance it having a 105 instead of a 120.
Overall, better modeled autoloaders could provide a good opportunity for more in depth balancing, and could even allow for some tanks which previously had issues to be more on par with tanks at its own br.

You guys treat the Turret Basket as the boogieman when it’s actually very helpful for stopping shrapnel and small caliber weapons.

many tanks should instead of choosing not to load should just be able to unload instead and reload a different type as its a common thing

should work like that, but it dissables turret rotation. Even if i missed the shot

Agreed

The Abrams always lost its turret ring when penetrated in the neck. It just doesn’t lose its engine with it that often now.

From my experience (shooting at) the abrams and the leo, the turret basket model doesn’t help much with protection. This is because the damage model actually only covers the main ring at the hull roof, as well as a disc at the bottom. In a center mass shot you still end up wiping the crew so long as spall liners or jank doesn’t mess it up.

No. No it isn’t.

There’s a 0% chance adding the barrel moving part of auto loaders doesn’t become buggy as hell

It very much is. I’ve owned the Abrams for a long time now and immediately noticed the difference. It takes 30mm APFSDS a few extra shots compared to before the change. This may not seem like much, but at top tier, vehicles are more than capable of reacting to a threat within a second or two.

On top of that, Shrapnel, which would normally shred into the engine block from the turret neck is heavily slowed on the ring, resulting in a significantly lower chance of having both your turret and engine disabled at the same time.

I genuinely do not see why any of you even complain about this change. The Abrams ALWAYS lost its turret controls when hit in the neck. It’s the literal turret ring. Having a basket below it doesn’t change much outside of the total material around the crew. You should never play the Abrams out of a hull-down location unless necessary.

Yes because now when i get hit in the engine 60% of the time my turret ring now gets knocked out due to the basket. But your right i shouldnt complain when other nations get 120mm dart absorbing ERA

It literally doesn’t, hell it intially and at times still CREATES spall. Same way Leo trunnions somehow create spall when nobody else’s do. And they block horizontal drive for absolutely no good reason.

On topic. Tanks with the baskets modelled don’t really need a further nerf. Many of them already reload significantly slower than they should. Where the recent buff to auto loaders without having to reset the barrel lead to them now having the absolute “optimum possible reload speed under best circumstances” at all times.

@Sgt_Duck And “wet ammo storage” auto loaders that eat spall, and allow them to keep rotating their turret and fire with no issue.

Engines provide absolutely zero protection within WarThunder, so if you get shot in the ass in an Abrams, you’re dead.

The Russian ERA blocks also need to be tweaked. One thing being true doesn’t make the other false.

Russian ERA blocks should only be capable of stopping APFSDS at high angles, as is the case in real life.

Modules don’t create spall. Spall sometimes duplicates within WarThunder, which is what you’re noticing.

Spall Liners are likely bugged on them. They don’t seem to work consistently.

I do agree that this is silly, but the basket should be there. The Abrams should also get flak vests.

I don’t see baskets as a nerf.

This is half true. Yes, an Abrams or Leo crew absolutely can slam a shell down range every other second or so, it’s highly impractical over long engagements and is impossible while performing maneuvers we do within WarThunder. I can say this with absolute certainty because I know some Abrams crew members who got their gunnery proficiency high enough for a barrel name.

Manually reloaded tanks often raise their own barrels as well.

LEOPARD 2 FIRING in ACTION

While not for the same reason, it is the same kind of situation.

As far as I’m aware, there are no “wet ammo stowage” autoloaders at top tier. If you mean Russian Caurasel autoloaders, they should jam when shot. It’s only fair.

What if the actual health of the turret basket was increased so it doesn’t just die immediately?

A direct hit with a large dart could still knock it out but wide angle spall wouldn’t.

A simple stopgap solution. Why not just have it so that when the turret basket is shot, instead of fully disabling your turret drive, it simply slows it as if the tank’s power is off?
