Description:
To make up for the slow supply of Alfa Romeo engines, the Regia Aeronautica commissioned Caproni Taliedo to build a prototype fitted with the Isotta Fraschini Delta IV RC.16-48 inverted-V twelve-cylinder engine,
air-cooled, capable of 840 hp (626 kW) at 5,300 m; despite being aware of the lower power available, the authorities were confident that the weight reduction obtained would allow performance comparable to that of the standard Re.2001 to be maintained. In the summer of 1942, a prototype (MM.9920) called Re.2001 Delta was built in Taliedo, ordered one hundred planes the September 8, even before it could be tested in flight for the first time, which took place on September 12. The prototype was transferred to Guidonia in November, but the performance achieved (523 km/h at 5,600 m, 10 minutes and 30 seconds to reach 6,000 m) were lower than those of the standard Re.2001, as the engineer Longhi had foreseen. . The prototype was destroyed by a fire due to engine overheating on January 27, 1943, and the order for one hundred units was cancelled.

Why it should be in game:
Now that Re:2001 is at BR 3.0, it could be an alternative for BR gaps, at 2.3/2.7, it’s still fast and well performing and capable weaponry for that BR.
