Rafale's SPECTRA System (Gaijin, please respond)

Do you have informations about it ? Never ever saw this part of the eurofighter advertised this much, and from what i saw eurofighter was always ranked way lower by the countries trialing for this sort of capability.

Most of it is classified, but the ECM on the Typhoon is always reported as one of its strongest attributes and a rival for even US systems.

I don’t think it’s fair or right to just conclude the Rafale is better without evidence or fair comparison. Both systems are too classified to make that assumption and it would be best to consider them relatively equal for now.

In game, if/when they are added, I doubt there will be much difference

There are fair comparison that exist tho, even if yeah we will never have all the descriptions behind it. That is why i talked about countries trialing it alongside rafale and differents others aircraft and showing the ranking with the eurofighter lower. I know those will not help for the game or at least not to model it well enough.

Spoiler

(video is in french but the ranking are in english so you don’t even need the sound anyway) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQZZe1WbRQ8&t=224s

Pretty sure Smin said they won’t come for some time somewhere, as it, aswell as other comparable missiles such as ASRAAM or IRIS-T are using IIR guidance, not IR guidance. IIR focuses on the heat “area”, in this case the plane, instead of the heat source, such as engines or flares. If im not mistaken, things like the AGM-65D or whatever already has that guidance mode, but I could easily be wrong, as I can’t check rn.

The SPECTRA is just one of those things that will have to be implemented piece by piece slowly with each of the sensors being corrected/buffed. The IRST and TV sensor has to get fixed, the RWR has to get fixed, radar has to get fixed, correct amount of countermeasures as well as modularity has to get fixed.

There’s a report put in for the RWR to cue to TV sensor, this is a part of the SPECTRA system. Rafale’s TV sensor should be cued by its passive sensors. // Gaijin.net // Issues

I think you have a great point. They made a point to add stealth to the F-117 Nighthawk. People would have been angry and upset if it came to the game live without any of the stealth attributes.

Not only does the Rafale have SPECTRA ECM, but it also has RCS reduction features and IR signature reduction features. Both have been reported.

For the Rafale to not have SPECTRA, radar and IR reduction signatures is egregious. I know that ECM is not modeled in-game for any aircraft at this moment, but they could have certainly modeled sensor fusion which is where they combine data/information from different sensors whether they be active or passive. A big selling point of both the Eurofighter and Rafale sensor fusion. Not having any sensor fusion in the game is ridiculous.

They added the mechanism where the TV would slave to the radar for the F-14 when it came. But they didn’t expand on the sensor fusion for the Rafale and Eurofighter, which is absurd since there was quite a bit of time between TV slaving and up until now.

being able to defend ourself with systeme like the SPECTRA is needed, to give you a precise idea of what is this systeme: “SPECTRA operates in the electromagnetic, laser and infrared domains, using intelligent data fusion from multispectral sensors to provide identification, localization, jamming and deception against a wide range of threats.” This would increase the chances of surviving, will increase the playing time of the games, and the fun…

It will jam enemy radars so you don’t need to do anything in order to defeat ARHs ?
Yeah, let the game play itself lol.

We actually have that in game 😅😅

one missile i’m sure is equipped with it is spike, and that thing can’t get flared, even when fired at low IR signature things like a helicopter

The only way to dodge it would be for a flare to get between the missile and the target, or to damage / blind the missile’s seeker.

In any case, they’ll either be incorrectly implemented OR extrememy hard to balance

it is suppose to be a realistic game, use your brain and you will see the sens of it

I predict gaijin might ready 5th generation infrared Air-to-Air Missile for fighter aircraft top tier after Q1 2025 and decompression max BR to 14.3

But attack aircraft & tactical strike aircraft top tier might receive 5th gen WVR Air-to-Air Missile before fighter aircraft

Keyword is game.
You should be playing it, as if the game is playing itself, all of it loses it’s point.

if you dont like systeme of jet, just leave this community or the game, but complaining about realistic systeme on a “realistic game”, is pretty pathetic

System is fine in real life, but automatization it brings to the game isn’t fine.

Tanks can have auto-lead implemented to their FCS but doing that would remove yet another skill element of the game.

Adding even more handholds to the already braindead gameplay is a recipe for disaster.

I agree with you about the ground battle, its too good for it when cas is dominating it even atm, but this systeme in ab, would be good, I think it can be good in a first time only for ab, and not gb

The point I disagree with is that every 2 or 3 updates, some nations (usually Russia or the USA) gain access to new technologies or performances that no one else has a counterpart or equivalent for, at least at the same BR (e.g., F-14 ARH, Ka-52 range and dual rotor, Pantsir range and ballistic interception mode, Strela optical contrast lock, Moffett RoF and shrapnel armor, etc.). There are many examples. This is fine, even if they keep those advantages (and they are advantages) for several updates. However, when it comes to minor nations (France in this case), it’s not acceptable that they cannot access contemporary superior technologies that what is already present in the game (e.g., Magic 2 nerfed for years and some planes not receiving them, Mica nerfed significantly, Mica IR not being considered, Rafale’s AESA acting like a PESA at best, Spectra not fully modeled, missing AASM 1,000kg bombs and the three heavy pods not exclusive to fuel pods, AMX-30 missing COTAC, etc.).

Another commonly heard argument is, “If there’s no counterpart to add, it’s not Gaijin’s fault.” But this argument only applies one way—our minor nations cannot have something others don’t have.

Edit :

Anyway, I’m OK with Rafale don’t getting the large superiority other all ingames planes it should have, but, please, don’t put a F3R if you modeled it as an F1 or F2 standard…
So, replace ingame Rafale C F3R by a Rafale C F2 and keep the F3 standard to later when thoses features will be “less” broken (you have to remove 2 Mica so, it’s the only F3R spec)
Even here it will miss some systems but it will be closer than actually.
Next add Rafale M F1 then C F3/F3R. (And Rafale A please 😅)

Gaijin has always mixmashed planes together from various standards and timeframes (Looking at you, F-4E). This is nothing new and arguing about it is equivalent to bashing your head against a brick wall expecting it to turn into marble.

@MotorolaCRO is correct in that gameplay/fun comes first before realism. Cause you know what? Real life isn’t fun. No matter how good you are, you’ll still be nuked from orbit if some vehicles were given their full potential with no training wheels.

On the topic of planes not having their ECM systems, it’s not very fun facing an aircraft that you have no hope in hell of targeting/killing while it yeets a missile at you with impunity.

War Thunder is a game, not a true to life simulator. They’ll do the best they can to make it as true to life as possible but they shouldn’t do so at the expense of playability/fun.

I don’t think radar jammers are implemented in the game yet, as fully functional ones would basically make you immune to ARHs from what I’ve seen. This isn’t good for gameplay in my opinion as it removes yet another skill element of the game basically with no drawbacks.

Looking at how broken current ARB is, I don’t think the game is ready for either radar jammers nor advanced IRs like IRIS-T or Mica IR.

Gameplay and mode itself should be fixed before we introduce yet another powercreep that will be a huge meta changer.

Basic jammers reduce radar visibility and prevent weapon locks. More advanced jammers have enough power to jam you without you even knowing it.
