Rafale's SPECTRA System (Gaijin, please respond)

Hello dear developer,

I would like to know why the SPECTRA system of the Rafale has not yet been added to the game. I am frustrated because it is indeed modeled in the game but cannot be used. Perhaps this is for reasons of balancing the nations, but I think it would be interesting to add such a system to the game.

If you are not familiar with such a system, here it is as mentioned in its commercial datasheet: https://www.dassault-aviation.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/2015/02/Dossier-RAFALE_FR.pdf.

For your information, "this system is called SPECTRA, which stands for ‘Système de Protection et d’Évitement des Conduites de Tir du Rafale’ (Rafale’s System for Protection and Avoidance of Fire Control), formerly ‘Système de Protection Électronique Contre Tous les Rayonnements Adverses’ (Electronic Protection System Against All Adverse Radiation), operating on a frequency range of 1 to 20 GHz.

The operation of SPECTRA relies on a principle different from those mentioned earlier to deceive radars: if the wave returning to the radar has been deliberately altered, the radar will deduce an erroneous position for the object."

These explanations come from the following analysis, which provides a better understanding of what it consists of and what it looks like visually (with additional information on passive stealth!): De la discrétion du Rafale à la furtivité du F-22 : analyse des concepts de furtivité face aux radars.

If this is ECM, then it’s not in-game period for any aircraft.

There are no Electronic support systems modeled in the game at all yet.
None of the aircraft that have this functionality has it in game yet as it hasn’t been added as a mechanic.

I would like to add something. I think bringing out the Rafale without adding the SPECTRA system is like adding the F-22 without stealth. That’s the strength of the Rafale, that system.

Like a majority of the other top rank jets.

The system itself is not functional in the game, but it is clearly visible on the aircraft… for example, the “block” at the end of the winglet is part of this system. I know the Typhoon has a similar system (less effective, of course), so it will always be possible to find a balance.

That’s true, but it would make the game so much more interesting, forcing close combat, for example… Gaijin did add passive stealth, so why not add active stealth as well?

It is clearly visible on the Mig-21MF too which has been in-game for years.
Rafale is not unique.

Give it time, if Gaijin is working on it it will come when it’s ready.

I doubt we need any more automation in the current top tier.
Do you want your jets to fly themselves while you watch with hands off your keyboard ?

where ?

Why is it less effective? Typhoon has a world class ECM system

The ECM alone is not SPECTRA, just a part of it. The SPECTRA provides long-range detection, identification and accurate localisation of infrared, electromagnetic and laser. The system incorporates, RWR, LWS and MAWS for threat detection plus Jammers and decoy dispensers.

Besides Jamming, counter react decision computer and current issues with the implementation, SPECTRA has been implemented and is functional the way the Game supports it. This is also not unique to the Rafale but quite a few other Jets with integrated ECM and similar features.

It’s the pod, it’s an ECM and countermeasures pod.

The MiG-21 doesn’t have one… These systems are very modern; just because you see cameras and electronics sticking out doesn’t necessarily mean it’s such a system… Aircraft equipped with systems like the Rafale’s include, for example, the F-35, the Gripen, the F/A-18 Hornet, or even the Typhoon.

This is from the Q&A with the Game Director:

So Electronic Support Measures are a thing planned in the near future.

The pod underneath the aircraft in the image is not a fuel tank, it is an ECM pod.

Good, I hope they will be faithful to reality this time… just like with the range or the system’s effectiveness.

I mean, as close as they can get with publicly available information, i doubt that they will be able to do 100% accurate characteristics as they are all classified.

Do you have any information about the MICA IR? Because it’s all well and good to have the OSF, but if it’s unusable…

What do you mean?
Just to clarify (because i know the title can be confusing): Game Masters handle chat- and name-bans, i have no access to any behind the scenes information and i have no influence on the development of the game.
