Rafale's SPECTRA System (Gaijin, please respond)

where ?

Why is it less effective? Typhoon has a world class ECM system

The ECM alone is not SPECTRA, just a part of it. The SPECTRA provides long-range detection, identification and accurate localisation of infrared, electromagnetic and laser. The system incorporates, RWR, LWS and MAWS for threat detection plus Jammers and decoy dispensers.

Besides Jamming, counter react decision computer and current issues with the implementation, SPECTRA has been implemented and is functional the way the Game supports it. This is also not unique to the Rafale but quite a few other Jets with integrated ECM and similar features.

It’s the pod, it’s an ECM and countermeasures pod.

The MiG-21 doesn’t have one… These systems are very modern; just because you see cameras and electronics sticking out doesn’t necessarily mean it’s such a system… Aircraft equipped with systems like the Rafale’s include, for example, the F-35, the Gripen, the F/A-18 Hornet, or even the Typhoon.

This is from the Q&A with the Game Director:

So Electronic Support Measures are a thing planned in the near future.

The pod underneath the aircraft in the image is not a fuel tank, it is an ECM pod.

Good, I hope they will be faithful to reality this time… just like with the range or the system’s effectiveness.

I mean, as close as they can get with publicly available information, i doubt that they will be able to do 100% accurate characteristics as they are all classified.

Do you have any information about the MICA IR? Because it’s all well and good to have the OSF, but if it’s unusable…

What do you mean?
Just to clarify (because i know the title can be confusing): Game Masters handle chat- and name-bans, i have no access to any behind the scenes information and i have no influence on the development of the game.

I know and I understand, but it’s often possible to gather a lot of information, especially about the range of weapons, through the results of simulated exercises. For example, in 2009 in the United Arab Emirates, BVR and visual-range engagements took place between the Typhoon and the Rafale. At visual range, it was 4 vs 4. The French pilots won 4-0 the first time and 3-1 the second time… I know that in this specific case, we can’t draw any definitive conclusions, but we can already infer that the Rafale excels in close combat. The example might be weak, but there have been many other exercises regarding the capabilities of certain aircraft implemented in the game… Gaijin could look into this.

You seem to be looking into the development of the game more than I am, so I was asking if you have any information about the potential arrival of a MICA IR.

I don’t know enough about the specific aircraft to be able to answer well :P
But i think the biggest thing to think about is the types of missiles they used during those exercises and what missiles are currently in game.

No idea. at all :P

MICA IR won’t come that soon, because they would currently be unbalanced

They will come when everyone get their equivalent, from aim9x to r74, pythons to iris-t or asraam, you name it

i would bet june 2025, but that’s just a bet

In itself, the MICA IR is a Fox-3… and France is the only nation to design Fox-3 IR

since its IR its a FOX 2.

It’s just way to advanced compared to what is in game currently, there are many equivalents IRL but i would guess that those are going to be released around the same time for every air tree for balance.

Mica IR is fox 2, Mica EM is fox 3

in game it would work lile a Mica EM, except it doesn’t give a warning on the RWR of your target : that’s where the balancing issue comes in

Do you have informations about it ? Never ever saw this part of the eurofighter advertised this much, and from what i saw eurofighter was always ranked way lower by the countries trialing for this sort of capability.
