Radar and IRST Should Be Able to Operate Simultaneously on Compatible Aircraft

Well the bug report wasn’t asking for maddog

Speaking of, has ANY report asked for maddog?

People were asking for it years ago, when fox3’s were first added, haven’t seen anything recent though

There’s a few on the bug report site, but for the active radar SAMs

Forgot the F-14D

Mig-23
(Mig-25 not 100% sure)
Mig-29 9.12
Mig-29 9.13
Mig-29M
Mig-29KR
Su-27
Su-27SM
Su-30MK2
Su-30MKK

are able to use the Radar and IRST at the same time

also the IRST on the Mig-35 is called OLS-UEM

Too much stuff is classified. Legion IRST is the only one publicly disclosed to be capable of passive range finding afaik, so you’re unlikely to get enough proof that they can fire ARH missiles off of IRST.

I also don’t think it’s as simple as that for modern jets anyway. Sensor fusion and all of that means you’re rarely using a single data source for target generation

There seems to be something for the MiG-25 which sounds “similar” to the MiG-23’s IFF + RLS operation, see attached images.

I’m not sure if this is solely for defeating jamming, IFF & SARH illumination but this “quasi-scan” sounds interesting.

that yellowing of the page looks more like “Visiersysteme der Jagdflugzeuge MiG-23 ML und MiG-29”

They all have IRST, but AFAIK, they have no (or extremely limited) sensor fusion. I however don’t know if both sensors can be in search mode at the same time (using 2 displays ?).
From what I can gather, the current basic implementation of the IRST in game simply is the one of the mig23, so it’s probably safe to assume that those earlier iterations would remain mostly similar to how it’s currently in game

I guess they have some form of sensor fusion ? The base SU27 probably be is a lot more limited than the other more recent jets (su30sm, mig35…), and I don’t know for the others 3.

I’m fairly sure it’s the MF combat manual. The ML doesn’t have the T-P mixed Radar/IRST mode

the Mig-23 shows everything on the HUD, it dosent have any other display, same for the old Mig-29s where they only have a HUD repeater and the Mig-25 only has a single radar screen as well

would be pretty weird, considering that it is an upgrade from the 23MF

and that later the Mig-29 also had it

MiG-23 and 25 share bands, and there’s more than a few planes at, and below (not even mentioning above) their BR that are able to detect J band, for example:

  • F-5Es, A-6E, A-7, A-10A, and F-111A from the USA tree
  • Swiss Mirage III, F-4F, MiG-21s, and MiG-23MF for Germany
  • MiG-21s, Su-17M2, and MiG-23ML in USSR;
  • Buccaneer S.2, Hawk 200, Jaguar GR.1, and both Sea Harrier FRS.1s in UK
  • A-7, AV-8S, and Hawk 200 for Japan
  • F-5E, J-7D, and Q-5L representing the Sino tree
  • AMX, MiG-21s, and MiG-23MF in Italy
  • Mirage III E, Mirage 5BA, Mirage 5F, Super Etendard for the French tree
  • AJ 37, AJS 37s, F-5A(G), F-35, and MiG-21bis in the Swedish corner
  • A-7s, and Shahak in the Israeli tree

note that all those are all 10.–11.0, and that many listed have early RWRs, some of which cannot directly distinguish (e.g.: Mirage Detecteur, SPO-10, APP-27) between launches and locks
The main thing holding the MiG-23 at such a low br is the particular sensoric equipped on them, and specific way of flying them (most of this is conjecture)

i want to see your source for that

I don’t know what to tell you but ML doesn’t have it. I have both the manuals and ML radar mode selector doesn’t have that option

Earl gen IRST sure, but i seriously doubt the IRST on Eurofighter and Su-30SM2 will lose lock to flares.

Johnny, J. (2026). The Heckin’ russian Bias (69th ed.). r/Warthunder.

Which isn’t the same as the T-P mode on the MF. This is just IRST with range provided via radar pulses. On the MF you’re scanning with with radar/irst while you’re locked with the other sensor. Once I am on my computer later I will explain more
