R73 irccm

hello can some one tell me when r73 irccm ignores flare ?

its FoV gate (its FoV shrinks), its best used at close range as at longer ranges the shrinked FoV may still be able to see flares, also at close range it offers continuous tracking over 9M suspended animation and from rear hemisphere as it will see the engines better.

but what range is efective to use ?

¯_(ツ)_/¯

Depends on situation honestly.

On Su-33 I run 2x 27ETs I use at medium range and only switch to R73s once I merge, but if I get to jump someone who isnt aware and Im in higher energy state, R73 will do the job just as well.

R73 is most effective sub 1.5 km rear aspect against twin engines or sub .8km rear aspect against single engined air craft.
Assuming after burning for both and that they’re flaring

R73 seeker does not “ignores” flares. It seems like it ignores flares simply because it’s close enough to enemy jet or its FOV shrinks enough so it can’t see the flares.

It’s best to launch after somebody, or at enemy jets that are slow and not preflaring.

Oh yeah , one good thing to do is do radar slave the r73 when someone is perflaring so that it keeps lock on the plane and not the flares

It’s been nerfed for a long time, even if the enemy isn’t in pre-flare mode, just a few flares are enough to defeat the R73, unless it’s a shot from 1km behind it. If it’s smart, it will turn off the afterburner and then easily flare the R73. It’s just an R60 on steroids.

thx

so at 1.5 km is kill?

ye i remember when it was good

If the enemy is pre-flaring and has afterburner and doesn’t see you, there’s a good chance it will work. I only use the R73 now in overhead attacks; it does a good job because it has 40G. In an enemy formation, you can launch the R73 3 to 4 km over them and it’s almost a guaranteed kill. Most of the time it works if they aren’t firing flares like crazy. In dogfight now R73 is a just R60 with 40G and bad modeling TVC

Try placing your flare boxes over your engine to where it picks up the flare instead of the engine and keeps track on the flare due to the shrunk FOV.

Incorrect, rear aspect launches are easy to flare. Also double engine aircraft don’t necessarily mean easier lock, for example F-5. Most consistent hit is always side aspect launch, since flares quickly leave the FOV.

Well I didn’t really think about stuff like f-5 because those are usually such low br, though I did forget about the plethora of attackers around that br. When I talked about it I was more thinking of stuff like eurofighter, j11, f15, etc vs single engined fighters like the f16 or grippy. And then as for side aspect, imo that really only applies to shut off irccm like on the aam4 or on the aim 9m, gatewidth imo it’s harder to flare rear aspect due to the fact it can see the gaping hole of aircraft that is the engine

There’s no 100% kill in any situation, as they can roll and flare all over the place to evade your R73. but I would say 1.5km is 90% guarenteed kill, and of course the closer you are to enemy tail the greater chance you will get the kill.

Do 27Et’s actually work? I’ve been flying them with some friends and we haven’t really managed to get one to hit or keep its lock on a target we’ve even had several just get fooled by the aircraft its targeting shooting off a missile.

Well obviously the increased range they offer plays against the FoV gate type of IRCCM they have, but ive had massive success with them playing ambush tactics.

I mean it got to the point im sad I cant slap two of those puppies on eurofighter lol

I just cant get them to work they just fall for any form of heat sig no matter how close or far and just for whatever reason keep missing easy as hell shots by a mile, like people who aren’t even aware its coming and it just flys right by them.
