The R-27ER cannot reach hypersonic in game unless you’re at like 15km launching the missile at mach 2.
Prove the R-27ER has an internal radar that allows this after you easily defeat the host radar…
R27ER:
Receiver Range: 25,000
Receiver Max Range: 42,000
Aim-120A & B
Receiver Range: 16,000
Receiver Max Range: 25,000
This is because beyond 25km the R-27ER uses DL from the host radar to guide itself. Once its within 25km it uses its own seeker to find the target that is illuminated by the host radar. Its still a Fox 1. (note the enemy will still get an RWR and a launch warning throughout the R-27ER’s lifespan).
The R27ER has a thrust value of 55,000, and the Aim-120A has a thrust value of 22,300. Thats broken OP as hell for the R27ER. This explains why its accelerating at such a ridiculous speed.
It doesn’t matter, because the R-27ER doesn’t have an internal radar.
AIM-120A does, which means you can lose lock and it’ll guide itself in.
Russia doesn’t use R-27ER for a reason, even their R-77s are superior in capabilities; it was only ever developed for legacy aircraft that aren’t R-77 capable.
So you think a missile is OP because it has a high thrust value? Wait til you see the R-23…
Yes, because it doesn’t even come close to reality. Its 25% heavier than an Aim-120A, and its 15% fatter. It has way more drag. The engine produces around 5100 - 5900ftlbs of thrust. The ER just means it has a second stage. The Aim-120A & B produce around 7000ftlbs of thrust. Its smaller, lighter, and has a better engine IRL. It shouldn’t be slower.
I also find it interesting that its guidance system is set to 25,000 when the Aim-120 is set to 16,000 and that its max range is set to 100,000 when the Aim-120 is set to 80,000 in game.
It should be limited to Mach 4, not 5.7 and its thrust should reduced to 20,000.
Two Stages for R27ER
The Aim-120 is firing as a two stage:
2 diffrent types of missiles. Can’t compare. AIM-120 vs R-77 is more valid although dumb
Need a source for the R-27ER actual thrust values
R27ER is an extended range missile meant for BVR, how is it different? Its a two stage missile meant for BVR. The Aim-120 is a two stage missile for BVR. Except in game the R27ER is operating as a one stage missile with massive thrust, instead of two stages with different thrust.
Wrong. The in game R-27ER is a 2 stage with a booster and a sustainer.
1st stage is 55275N of thrust for 3.2 seconds
2nd stage is 26630N of thrust for 4.8 seconds
One has a radar in its head the other one does not. Diffrent tech
I see that further down in the code now. Its second stage is still wrong.
Ya you can’t really compare fox 1s to 3s
You guys
All seem to be
Missing the point.
Dude could have made the same point about the AIM-7M and it’d be pretty similar. The whole point is that the R-27 has unrealistic thrust and range.
I am comparing BVR vs BVR.
Gonna need a source
Which only makes your argument worse. I don’t care if the r27er is over preforming (which I am aware it is) unless it is going mach Jesus with 100g turn the 120 will still beat it in BVR. Now in wvr you have more of an argument. I agree with you that it is over preforming and needs to be fixed, but it’s better to do that by comparing it to a similar missile like the aim 7m.
It is going Mach Jesus. Its accelerating at 12,000+ftlbs for 3.2 seconds to Mach 5.75. It also has the range of the R27-ER1 at 100km instead of 70km it should have. So its a BVR missile for sure. Which is why I incorporated it with the Aim-120.
