What did they do to the R-73 recently?
I have not played Russian planes in a while, but when I got into them a few days ago, I had to notice that they seemed to have nerfed them into the ground…
A few months ago, they were almost undodgeble and now it feels like, they don’t have an IRCCM at all. I shoot my R-73 from behind, the enemy puts off one flair and its gone, my Aim-9Ls often do better than that.
Well I saw that some players were talking about the Magic 2s, since they use the same IRCCM type it could be an issue with that. Im not sure by the way
Magic 2 is at least fast, R-73 used to have great IRCCM and the vector controls that made it so strong
I’d guess that it’s working fine, the missile been behaving as you described for a while, some times it does get on countermeasure which is why I wait pre-flaring airplanes to engage and some others the missile itself locks in objects after the inital launch in a specific target such as missiles or anything else.
Certainly doesn’t feel half potent anymore. Losing it to flares in sub 1.5km launches.

it is mostly due to the launch situation,… most people launch missiles, even in impossible enveloppe
I launch it from the side or the back and then they dump flares and ez dodge
Yes, really sad because its the best Russian heatseeker missile
The Magic-2, Aim-9M or PL-5III always hits from the side or front, R-73 should be too, it used to have one of the best IRCCMs in the game

Not always. Even when I shoot directly from the back, people can still easily dodge. When I play Eurofighter or F-18, the Aim-9M from direct behind, is a safe kill.

Seekers across the board are butchered. Magic will chase flares that are nowhere near the seeker fov for some reason, and 9M is pretty comfortably defeated by the nature of the IRCCM. Just Gaijin being opposed to making short range engagements adequately threatening to encourage BVR.

I still feel like, these missiles have a lot more success than the R-73 currently
I think we really need a dogfight mode, with no missiles. This would be so fire.
not really, 9m at least right now is barely hitting anything 9l wouldnt
I have to disagree, I played the Eurofighter yesterday and I tracked my 9Ms fired from behind and saw that it also hit enemies maneuvering and flair spamming.
idk, ive had a number miss shots they absolutely should have hit
