Okay, so I’m racing to unlocking the Gripen E before March. I am about half done researching the Gripen C, but I don’t think I can get another 420k plane out before March 1st. What happens to the research I invest in the Gripen E? Will I retain it but unable to research further until I get the (presumably) five Rank 8 airframes to unlock Rank 9? Will I be able to continue researching the craft even if I don’t have rank 9 unlocked?
If anyone has any insight or experience with this, I’d appreciate the answer. If not, I guess it doesn’t matter. I probably only need to take a 200k detour in picking up the JA37 DI variant to unlock Rank 9 (JA37D, JA37DI F21, JAS39A and (soon) JAS39C already unlocked.
I’m just expecting them to bump up the RP and SL cost of the JAS39E when it goes up to Rank 9, so … not looking forward to that.
If vehicles are stacked on top of each other I don’t think you need to research/buy the bottom one (DI) to advance.
And I would be shocked if you loose any research you’ve already invested.
If you are halfway done researching JAS39C then all you need to do to access rank 9 is finish your current research - assuming you have the min number of rank 8s.
From the revised TT draft, it looks like they are stacking JAS39A and JAS39C? If that’s the case, you may be able to skip JAS39C if you don’t really want it.
I’m thinking minimum planes research requirement for being able to access Rank 9 vehicles. So, right now it will be unlocked to research, but in March, it might become ineligible to research-- until I complete X rank 8 planes, which would mean having to research the JA37DI before I can continue researching the JAS39E.
Yeah, that’s what I meant by minimum number of rank 8s.
You are currently researching C? If you finish C will that be enough?
If not you can research DI … OR … if you dont care about DI maybe a plane in another branch at 8?
If it helps I can research vehicles in the max rank still even if they add one to a rank below it in the same line as long as I have the upper rank already unlocked by meeting the amount of vehicles required for it, for example I researched the F15J MSIP or whatever despite them rearranging the tree to have several jets before it that I don’t have now, just because I had its rank unlocked, with a few points into it.

I definitely did the first time I read your reply.
I’ll be at 5/5 – I assume that’s the number of planes I’ll need-- if I research the DI. So, worst case scenario, the rank bump sets me back a week of solid playing. But if there was anyone who had a similar experience from a previous rank adjustment.
I’ve only got about 200k left in researching the C right now, and I’ll likely hit that around Wednesday and so I estimate I’ll be about 200k into the E – if the change happens March 1st. If it’s like the 4th or 5th, I’ll likely finish the research by then.
I guess, for science, I’ll let everyone know how it works, if it happens to me.
If you start researching the 39E before it moves to Rank IX, the most likely thing to happen is you’ll still be able to research it but you won’t be able to buy it until you fully unlock Rank IX
The same thing happened to me when I was researching the Leo 2A5 before it moved up another rank and I just quit grinding Germany after that
