PSA: Your ammo rack order has changed

Yep, best to just start taking 20 rounds for everything and try not to let it bug you as much. Only about 1,000 vehicles to redocument, though, might as well start here:

M4A5: Not changed in game (yet), changed in test drive.

I’m also just wondering why this different version exists for client side and server side, anything in the test drive and protection analysis could outright be different versions of a vehicle than what is used in a match.

“Remodelled interior components” had more ramifications than we thought when we voted for it, I guess.

I’m not gonna tell you “I told you so”, but… :/

I mean let’s not shift the blame on the players here at least, the whole voting thing is psychology 101 illusion of choice thing and the thing we didn’t vote for will make it way into the game as well soon enough.

It’s so nefarious to bring up a big point of frustration about how light tanks aren’t dying and then implement this feature on such a short notice with almost no explanation, and now the first thing they do is prioritize SPAA to implement it on and it’s already on more MBTs than light tanks.

I assume the test drive rack state is what they want it to be going forward and in-game just hasn’t caught up yet? Some big meta balance changes coming if true and they continue to implement, a lot of vehicles at all BRs are much less viable if all their ammo is in the turret/bustles.

I mean it would a major nerf to vehicles and completely unannounced as well, it would completely ruin some vehicles just because snail feels like it?

I’ve figured it out! Remember when they asked if the player base wanted APHE to be nerfed? Well this must be part of it. But instead of nerfing APHE, they helped all the other shells bc now you can shoot anywhere on most tank and they will get ammo racked XD

Sorry if that’s a little messy. It’s my first conspiracy theory

I mean one CAN see the realism argument of course. And if it stays implemented it will lead to the additional realism aspect of tanks taking closer-to-full ammo into battle (which they did do historically and tend not to in game because if you can just fill the hull floor rack you were pretty safe from ammo explosions). No reason not to take 40-50 rounds in the early Shermans and T-34s now, since it’s effectively all in the bustles anyway no matter what you do.

I don’t think forcing full ammo is a direction the game should go in, and these things are never fairly balanced either.

If the BRs drift as a result it’ll rebalance, I’m not worried. Nice nerf to people who play the ground game a lot and optimized their racks on hundreds of vehicles, or just knew to rely on the wiki, though. I’d just like them to sync up with test drive again so I can start messing around with that and figure out the best loads now, custom battles take considerably longer in time per test.

I don’t want to think of the time I have spent/wasted building a spreadsheet of the optimum battle loads for hundreds of tanks…
Thanks Gaijin!

It’s not really optimizing racks that much, bring 20 shells or less and you’re good to go, just using the x-ray in game also shows you if snail wasn’t too lazy to properly visualize it.

Turning every vehicle into a one shot because they carry 80 rounds for no good reason and taking away player control is never a good direction to go in.

The problem is if it takes those 20 rounds and then divides them between all the ammo racks in the tank so that all of the hitboxes remain active.

I never heard that being a thing

It wasn’t that way before, now since the update it is for some tanks. See my early Sherman cross sections above. First six rounds still go in the floor rack, then it starts filling the bustles a few rounds at a time.

Because the early vehicle model racks aren’t segmented by round, they’re either full or empty, even one round in any rack section makes that whole rack section destructible.

And again, you can’t tell this by test drive because test drive has a completely different fill order now.

I have the idea that ammo racks are being filled in reverse in test drive.

It should fill up from 8 to 1 but in test drive it starts with 1 seemingly.

Then in the match it’s seemingly the right order… in your game i think it shows 8 down to 4 being filled and 3-2-1 empty… but you don’t carry nearly enough ammo to fill up all those racks

Could be, it’s more plausible as a test drive bug than just having different internal models. But there’s also been some underlying changes to actual ammo distribution in at least some vehicles (early Shermans for sure) that’s obscuring, it seems.

I don’t like how different versions of vehicles exist in the game, internal or external, there is no logical reason for this and can clearly be used for manipulation… and definitely adds up with the protection analysis not being able to replicate in game experience.
