PSA : How to 100% guarantee you dont team kill friendly planes/helis/drones

Radar IFF : |-| enemy |=| ally : Air Alert with NO direction is FRIENDLY!

is what I spam at the start of EVERY ground sim games and I STILL get team killed.

Last 4 games? THREE team kills.

“Wah wah! I don’t have radar! I don’t have IFF!” is all I hear.

MAKE AN AIR ALERT HOTKEY.

If you get ‘Helicopter, XXX #direction, Height XXX meters’ : SHOOT THEM!

If you get “AIR!” : DO NOT SHOOT THEM!

It’s THAT simple.

I’m playing France 10_2, I have a gun and just 2 crappy ATGMs, I will be over on their side killing helicopters and spaa…

Remember : 2 TKs in a game gets you kicked. 1 TK in 2 games gets you a temp ban.

MAKE AN AIR ALERT HOTKEY… and use it.

I feel like I am slowly educating players every game…

but yeah…

Does the Air Alert! really work? I’ve gotten so much false negatives that I’ve stopped using it ages ago. Maybe I’ll try it with the 106.

Yes.

You need to be looking through your gunner or binos in a tank or atgm view in CAS.

Absolute game changer for low level spaa in sim without radar.

Oh yes, I was thinking about EC and cockpit view,

You don’t even need gunner or bino view - you do need to make sure the aircraft is visible when you finish pressing the call though (this is applicable for GAB/RB)

Ally planes that are close to the battlefield are also always shown on the minimap. either with the circle moving across the map when they are directly over the ao or the pointer on the map edges. If you hear a plane and you cant identify it, you are sure it is only one, and there is a plane marker on the minimap then that plane is ally. If there is no marker and it is close then it is enemy, given there is only one plane. That at least helps in low tiers with close aircraft. if they are further youve got time to use the air alert method.

This is a sim thread, u don’t get this info in sim

Nope.

I ALWAYS target the enemy helipad on take off and use it… if an enemy helicopter hasn’t flow left or right immediately, it pings them.

A couple of pings will catch later spawners.

Try it on Pradesh, you’re not seeing anyone for 2 minutes there.

oh, that might be true actually. i thought i remembered it that way? in rb you get merkers on ally planes no?

the map in ground sim is just the map, zero info on teammate positions

You do… it’s very short range… 900m I guess.

for ground yes, close planes you see on the minimap if they are friendly. So usually, if you hear a plane, check minimap → marker? yes → plane ally, unless theres multiple, then number of ally planes as shown on map, others are enemy.

Hear one plane–> check markers–> none–> plane is enemy

But a doublecheck with air alert or id never hurts (unless you need to decide very quickly ofc then it could hurt)

When 2 planes take off they can see each other on the map as blue dots…

I will normally get on the six of a plane and quickly check the map to see if I should start shooting…

I think this might be a high-tier vs low-tier difference, because I’m not sure I’m familiar with the mechanic you’re describing.

OH

You’re talking Air battles - yeah, in that case I’m VERY unfamiliar with air calls - I’ve never used them when I was also an aircraft!

oh i just realized, you are probably talking about id from air to air. i was thinking plane id when youre on the ground (possibly playin aa). mb. Im only familiar with the method i described when being on the ground

You need a targetting pod, atgm view or bomber gunner view for it to work in aircraft.

Pointing your nose at a dot in your cockpit and using it does nothing.

Im talking about both…

Planes can also use air alert, but it will not work from the cockpit … you need to point at the target…

so gun, bino, TV camera, ATGM view, gunner pod or bomber rear gun sight.

Sounds pretty complex to me /s
