Proposed Updates to the SQB gamemode

Co-Commander of [SCORE] here, totally agree with this!!! Actual rewards for playing the game mode would actually bring more players to the game mode since as it stands, squadron battles have no real reward to justify the average player to play the game mode over ground realistic besides bragging rights for a high placement, I think its completely unfair that the overwhelming majority of squadron battle players will receive essentially no rewards and the few lucky ones that are in the top 20 will get what is essentially crumbs for 2 months of gameplay.

yeah some of these changes would be great and incentivize people to play SRB which is always a good thing

I would love to see this implemented in the game, this would greatly help small and new squadron like ours!

500RP for winning an sqb match is an absolute pittance, especially considering squadron vehicles require more rp than tech tree vehicles. Such a change would make the obtaining of squadron vehicles a worse chore than event vehicles.

If this was on top of the current system it would make more sense.

The way i worked this out is you currently get 20k per 3 days. This means 6.6k per day. If you win 10 matches per day you would get the same amount of RP as the current system.

I do agree that it should be on top of the current system or the numbers should be reviewed and worked on by someone on the war thunder staff team to get a good and fair number.

(I want to make sure we as players are not being unrealistic or asking for too much otherwise we run the risk of being laughed at and ignored.)

The last thing we would want is for this to be overlooked as its one of the main things that is meaning a lack of new players and older players giving up.

This is the previous post i was referring too that even had support from game masters.

This would be some great changes to see. We reaæly need to see some more reason to actually play squadron battles, because i have on multiple occasions had to tell a new player coming into SRE that there really isn’t any rewards to it, and that the only real incentive to play is for the fun.
Don’t get me wrong i love playing the mode, and get way more enjoyment out of it compared to normal RB, but it’s kust dissappointing that the competitive mode sees so little love and changes.
In addition to you suggestion about squadron RP, i would also suggest bit only having the RP from just playing, but also a massive payout at the end of season. For example have top 100 squadrons get 500000 RP spread across their players and then the closer you get to the it scales so top 50 gets 1000000 and so on. This in my opinion would be a good way to introduce some incentive to play for the squadrons that are lower down on the leaderboard. Because as of right now there is only the name decorations that they get anything from.
I really hope at least some of the changes described in the posts here get added, and if just one gets added that would be huge, so i hope you consider any of this Gaijin.

As a follower of this thread from the beginning, the initial ideas seemed broad but fun. But as we get this post by NaCrazy, I realised the only goal of these changes are to benefit the top 100 squadrons, even as we are with 600 squadrons who play. The best course for making squadron battles more fun, known and rewarding aren’t by boosting the top 100 squadrons but by making the game mode more widely known through the entire war thunder community. Also talking to 50 squadron leaders is basically the equivelant of talking to 1% of the people that actually play squadron battles. It’s like the equivelant of a billionaire meeting with his billionaire buddies, not every squadron has money to throw at the game. And most of all, in my eyes the biggest dealbreaker to squadron battles is the incredible amount of alt-accounts that gets used through the game even though it is against TOS.

Thanks for the answers. I will first drop my personal PoV on the ideas.

I still don’t see how this would solve the copyright and legal issues. This idea would result in hundreds of new logos being visible in the game. All of them would need to be checked somehow. Queue time for logo implementation will be long (at least at the start). How we should implement logos? In batches? Who should go first? Best squadrons (why?), first, that upload their logo (why?).
Option to change once per year sounds good, but again - whole process starts from the beginning.
What I want to say, it’s very risky idea. We need one “troll” squad to put game in huge troubles.

I like the idea with squadron page available in tab. It should be simple to implement.
I do not think we would implement any “link” outside the game. Again - super easy to abuse and create huge drama.

Please read it again and consider the potential (not even potential, it’s 100% sure) backlash.

I am not sure if it’s possible. Not because we do not want to allow you to earn this in game mode you love, but due to possible abuse. Still, something to discuss.

How so? Please explain.

PS. Again, I will not discuss rewards. Pay players GE to play SQB is not a proper solution to make mode popular (it’s easy way to make the mode an abuser heaven that will destroy it for all of you).

The changes he’s trying to push for, for example the icons/logos, would only be accessible by the top 100 SQB squadrons, even though there are a lot more squadrons who would want to use this feature if it was ever added, probably even squadrons who play for activity and don’t participate in squadron battles.

And the recruitment page is going to be a flawed way as well if they don’t limit it, it’ll be another list with hundreds of pages for every squadron trying to promote themselves and won’t bring new players to the actual squadrons tab in the game.

In my opinion, the only way to get more people to play squadron battles and join squadrons is a rework on the personal squadron rating system of squadrons and more publicity on the game mode itself, being it via social media or other means like the video posted 6 months ago by the War Thunder Youtube channel. https://youtu.be/3Q73fVM34xQ?si=p-a8rNcBlgKPrwn7

And the increased rewards, they are so desperately trying to push for, will only make it so that high squadrons will get paid out more, which will drive new people to only join the high squadrons instead of considering other squadrons.

A way to get more ‘rewards’ to people could be, like the night battles mode, make so X amounts of mission score, gained within the squadron battles gamemode, give you a set of decals, a profile picture and title like ‘Squadron warrior’ or something. Another idea could be such as the login streak, make it so that every year that you participate in all 6 season, you get a series of decals such as the ‘veteran’ decal.

I played for 2000 hours before I randomly stumbled into a squadron that required discord, and as such learned trough vc that there is a gamemode called Squadron Battles.

(Some form of advertisment would be nice)

Dear Stona,

I serve as an officer in AVR, a squadron that has held the #1 spot in Squadron Battles for nearly two years. I recently reviewed your replies in the SQB Gamemode suggestions thread and would like to raise the feasibility of introducing permanent, cosmetic-only rewards tied to sustained squadron performance. The leader of AVR, KISS, has also followed the discussion closely and strongly supports expanding the cosmetic reward system.

Concept
I propose milestone-based cosmetics for squadrons that achieve high rankings—#1, and optionally top 2, 3, 5, 10, 20, and 50—across seasons, with additional recognition for consecutive streaks (e.g., 6 seasons = 1 year, 12 seasons = 2 years, 24 seasons = 3 years). Examples include:
• Player card frames with gold backgrounds, laurels, and season numerals.
• Title variants (e.g., “Squadron Champions — Year I/II/III”).
• Exclusive profile icon sets.
• Squadron decal variants enhanced with wreaths or borders.
• Hangar trophies that visually upgrade with each milestone year.

Purpose and Value
Permanent cosmetics would create strong incentives for squadrons to compete consistently. Such rewards carry high visibility, low implementation risk, and clear financial upside for Gaijin. Increased SQB participation would likely drive more players to purchase Golden Eagles, premium vehicles, and squadron slots—ultimately generating greater long-term revenue.

At present, the only cosmetic reward is a season-limited decal. Many players view this as insufficient, particularly when compared to the effort required to remain competitive. By contrast, permanent recognition—such as a unique title or trophy—would make SQB participation more meaningful and rewarding.

Note for the examples below I have included emoticons. They may just not load properly on this forum.

Title Examples
For all squadron members maintaining first place for consecutive years:
• 🏆 Undefeated: 1 Year 🏆
• 🏆 Undefeated: 2 Years 🏆
• 🏆 Undefeated: 3 Years 🏆

For seasonal squadron leaderboard placement:
• 🥇 SQB 202X-X: 1st 🥇
• 🥈 SQB 202X-X: 2nd🥈
• 🥉 SQB 202X-X: 3rd 🥉
• ⚔️ SQB 202X-X: Top 5 ⚔️
• ⚔️ SQB 202X-X: Top 10 ⚔️
• SQB 202X-X: Top 20
• SQB 202X-X: Top 50

Additionally, you could extend permanent rewards to individual achievements, such as players earning a set number of squadron points, which would further motivate participation and personal contribution.

Closing
This system would honor the skill and dedication of top-performing squadrons, foster long-term engagement, and significantly raise the prestige of Squadron Battles. If you see potential in this proposal, I would be glad to provide more detailed designs and community feedback to support development.

Thank you for your consideration.

David

Seconded. Another thing would also be turning the little symbol into a decal, similar to what World War Mode had in terms of decal rewards. the PNG is already in game, and would require minimal effort. I included a picture of the symbol I’m referring to.

Also pls give e-100

Sure, and the rewards for SQB could be reconsidered… 👉👈

My recommendation would be instead of giving more, change the current rewards. A decal that only lasts a couple months is not worth it for many. 30’000 GE split primarily between 20 players (and some to the other 108) every 2 months for the hours and hours it takes to hit first place is also not worth it for many.

I would recommend removing the GE entirely and replacing it with the aforementioned cosmetic rewards in my earlier response. If it is something permanent and unique such as what I suggested, it will be desired by significantly more players and will likely lead to a lot more people playing SQB to get those permanent and unique cosmetic rewards.

Players who have the vehicles they want already do and are looking for a competitive mode will generally care a lot more about cosmetic rewards with bragging rights than anything else.

A Title, Border, Avatar or Decal for earning points across seasons on a individual level would be nice, example 5000, 10000, 20000

I agree, the reward system could really use a breath of life to keep competitors playing SQB.

-Could increase the 3-day cap to 22,500 research but 2,500 can only be gained by competing in SQB.
-Give a multiplier to research and sl gained due to matches sometimes going longer but with less kills due to tactics and strategy.
-Come out with a title or two that can be unlocked for winning SQB battles.
-Achievements in general.
-This is just an idea but SQB currency and an SQB store kind of like how World of Warcraft used PVP tokens but it could have some skins and boosters.
-to keep with the theme of the game it could be called “Allied Military Currency” which was used by soldiers when occupying territories. Rank of Squadron could unlock tiers of items in the shop.

Almost negligible.

Profit loss for Gaijin due to increased research and SL for players (meaning less GE spent and less $ for Gaijin)

100% agree - see my earlier suggestion

What do you mean?

Good idea just need to be careful that it doesn’t diminish Gaijin’s profits

Almost negligible means more agreeable to Gaijin and we still get a tool to attract more competitors. Also less backlash. Stona mentioned being concerned about backlash for something similar to this.

I counter that it is a missed opportunity for profit to have so few in squadron battles. Making the multipliers higher(maybe match it with sim) will allow players to progress while competing. Stona mentioned their willingness to consider not getting in the way of us playing the game mode that we love here:

It is a big turnoff to me that when I spend 6 hours on SQB I don’t have much to show for it, even on a good night. If I were to play RB I would have at least tripled my RP and SL comparatively. I don’t want to feel punished for playing SQB.

Unless I’m missing something, there are no achievements. There are achievements for many things like shown here:

This store would attract many more competitors to this mode. This mode HIGHLY encourages spading vehicles by buying modules, and other profit inducing factors influenced by the higher level of competitiveness, to be able to perform well at the weekly BR.
