Prop Engine WEP smoke

We 'd better have that thick a black smoke for too high mixture, not WEP

Fi engines enrich under higher boost in order to give some safety margin. It’s part of why Turbo petrol engines are never more efficient than a NA engine.

I’ve seen 3600hp petrol engines in drag cars doing many passes from pit lane, standing with crew and anything really fast/high power has a bit of carbon/darker smoke you can see from directly behind them. It’s pretty faint, but it’s there.

That said this is the company that makes every diesel engine possible emit white (blown head gasket?) smoke at idle.

Not sure if you statements as a whole (i am not an engineer) are valid for all kinds of WEP implemented within the game. I flew since the update a lot of matches with the DB 603A and was annoyed (like the op) by this thick smoke.

Imho the MW-50 works mainly to cool the air for the supercharger (and increase the O2 level) and allows therefore higher boost pressures which allows more fuel to be injected. I am quite sure that this black smoke looks rather than wrong adjustments of the fuel injection system, so fuel which was wasted…

But to be fair: The engine smoke of props without WEP has nothing to do with reality - either by own observations on airshows or by watching vids on yt - real warbirds produce way more smoke than we see in wt.
