History.
Ugo Passalacqua was born in the province of Ancona in 1914. After completing his studies in Florence, at only 17 he entered the Royal Academy of Infantry and Cavalry in Modena, leaving with the rank of second lieutenant of infantry in 1933. After a promotion to the rank of lieutenant in 1935, Passalacqua was assigned to the 4th Tank Infantry Regiment and left for the Spanish War in command of the 4th Tank Assault Company of the Tank Grouping. He fought in the Battle of Catalonia and had to make repatriation after injuries sustained in the fighting. In August 1940 Ugo resumed service in the 32nd Carrier Infantry Regiment in command of the 1st Company of the 4th Tank Battalion M13 and on November 11 of that year left for the Albanian front. During a fight against Greek units in late January 1941, his tank lost connection with his platoon during an offensive action, and after managing to spot allied tanks already hit he too was hit by an enemy shell that seriously wounded him and his crew. He managed with immense effort to return his tank with wounded crew to the Allied lines and was decorated for this action. This was the last of his battles and consequent decorations (he obtained a total of two medals for valor and a war cross) as just under a month later Ugo was killed in unknown combat near the city of Vlora.
