This post serves to highlight issues I have noticed with high tier GRB that I wish to discuss and maybe bring to the attention of the developers if enough players share my sentiments. By high tier I generally mean games at a BR above 8.0. I have passed the 8.0 BR bracket in a few nations and I’ve noticed I am having a lot less fun than in the lower BR’s. The problems I identified mainly boils down to the points discussed below.
It seems to me that the maps in the game are mostly designed with WW2 era tanks in mind, a BR bracket where tanks don’t get APFSDS that can hit easily and accurately at great ranges. Playing with old tanks and shells meant that tanks had to get closer to pen enemies, either due to pen drop off at range or because weak spots are small. This meant that small maps weren’t an issue because players had to get relatively close to the enemy to pen them. With modern tanks with APFSDS and ATGM’s these small maps boil down to knife fights where the average engagement range is way below the effective range of these vehicles. It seems like the response was to add more modern maps but most of these are close range knife fights due to the urban nature of the maps. I would like to see large maps with more hills and forests and less urban oriented maps. Examples of these Urban maps are Alaska, Cargo Port and Sweden. Maps I do like are maps like Arctic.
These open maps are an issue when it comes to CAS and Heli’s though. At the higher BR’s they absolutely wreck. You might have a good hull down spot behind a hill only for a heli to pop up and ruin your day. And SPAA’s aren’t always a good counter since a lot of guided munitions outrange SPAA’s. I’ve seen a lot of gameplay videos where players dismantle an enemy team with mavericks way outside the range of the SPAA.
The player issues I have are mostly with players who leave after their first death or who rush blindly into enemy fire, an issue I believe is worsened by the Urban map focus. Modern tanks are much faster than their older counterparts and as such players are incentivized to rush through the game. If maps were larger with more natural cover, and no or nerfed high tier CAS, I believe high BR GRB can be a lot more fun to play.
These are just my two cents, feel free to tell me why you agree or disagree. I am curios what solutions people have in mind.
