Nothing to come after hood? Britain has no shortage of ships to come after hood
If I remember rightly the problem is Britain had ditched the idea of heavy cruisers, they were too big but not big enough, were limited in number under the naval treaties and were inefficient for patrolling the empire. This meant the 8 inch gun wasn’t properly developed and the 6 inch guns outclassed them. This it why they went for light cruisers and battlecryisers instead.
No more Battlecruisers and Hood is part of the Battlecruiser line. The only other Battlecruiser laid by Britain was the G-3 class and its debatable if it was even laid.
There are plenty of new ships to come but they are in the other 2 lines.
In part thats what I mean.
Yeah, that is likely. Also convoy escort was a bigger problem. So ships that can handle air and subs were more important than BBs. After hte pocket battle ships were sunk, there wasnt much need for that middle wieght class of ships. Better to build 2 light crusiers and a bunch of destroyers than 1 heavy.
But in game, If I udnerstand the story right, 8inch guns were over-performing at the start. So they were nerfed into the ground by Gaijin. After all the changes were done to actually realisitcally model damage and fix the shells. 8inch guns still havent been restored and in my experiences do little more damage than 6 inch shells, but instead of firing 12 shells every 7 seconds, its 8 every 13 or so seconds. Which is a signifcant damage loss
Not too mention town class is faster, smaller and better armoured than the london
People tent to underestimate the survivability of British light ships. The cruisers of all the light cruisers from other trees are by far my favourite. The armour design and ammo storage etc is imo the best and even killing light cruisers I find the Brits the hardest.
Yes I enjoyed the Drachinifel videos on them, he is along with Battleship New Jersey one of my favourite naval historians.
They were treaty limited, and severely limited at that. Most other nations deviated by about 1k tonnes of displacement over, but Britain heavily stuck to the treaty as if we didn’t we couldn’t match the output of the Axis powers. The cruisers themselves had minimal armour, good firepower and speed, but they were not even remotely intended to face other heavy cruisers. Britain also didn’t swap turrets like Japan did. The reload was poor but the mechanism reliable which was an advantage irl but in-game limits us.
The cruisers were identified to be sub-par as there were 2 completed classes prepared to be laid come the start of the war (Admiral and Minotaur class) but it was decided that these were not a priority and never made it to be laid down. But these cruisers were more reflective of ships like the Prinz Eugen and had a much better balanced mix of armour firepower and mobility.
As you said they were great at policing missions, but actual combat against other heavy cruisers they were significantly handicapped.
Belfast vs Prinz Eugen is truly fair fight, i’ve 1v1 those quite a few times. London vs Prinz Eugen, dead in 3 salvos. Its no where close
Britain basically decided that Heavy cruisers could not be built effectively under the treaty limitations, which turned out to be true as some of the best heavy cruisers of the era were things like Prinz Eugen which displaced over 10k tonnes set by the treaty. But having a good fleet of fast BB’s and BC’s it was decided heavy cruisers would be made for policing missions and to serve against destroyers and light cruisers with a Battleship or Battlecruiser being placed in a nearby port in-case they encountered something they couldn’t reasonably engage.
With the introduction of radar and the admiralty fire control system, they eventually were fine to engage so long as it was from a distance where it was improbably that return fire could accurately target the ships and as with the sinking of I think Bismarck, this proved to be true.
If i’m not mistaken though the armour on Belfast is better than Southhampton on the turret faces so there’s less chance of a knockout.
Oh yeah, 4 times thicker, that will explain why Belfast feels a lot more tanky than the Southampton.
Liverpool is also the same thickness.
Its a real shame though we got the post WW2 refit for Belfast and not her WW2 incarnation. having some torps would have been nice.
Prince eugine is an easy kill even for London. Most ships around that br can one shot eugine pretty reliably if they get her broadside which 99% give every time. Water line shot to the rear third of the hull and they go boom. They are so bad it’s hilarious.
I’ll give that a go, thanks, ususally i find i’ve lost half my guns, my bridge and slowly sinking from the first salvo from a eugen
I not assuming you do but I see a lot of people showing too bunch broadside in Brit destroyers and cruisers. I rarely give a full broadside in them unless I know I’m safe and this usually deflects a lot of rounds and damage. Brit ships are also super agile and give you the ability to flick your rear out for a salvo then return far quicker then other nations can.
Yeah, I need to probably get better at how I angle myself in fights
Yes, definitely. A version of an Iowa-class BB including Premium status.
Exactly that.
If you ever want a team mate send me an invite.
Shall let you know, but thank you. but kinda taking a bit of break from actually playing WT for now, waiting for some new content to play. Fingers crossed this update though
Yeah it gets that way for sure. There was very little in the last update for me. Hungary was a short distraction but I need new content.
I basically only play Britian. Been a long long year
I ha e played since closed beta so have unlocked every nation to top tier except istrael air which is horrid and their ground to tier 5 and stopped. But Brits are my main and I’ve unlocked everything and need new content to have a reason to play and most preferably not top tier.
