Are you aware that the mig-29A outrates the F-18? Regardless of that the mig-29 can even ignore the F-18 because he can’t catch you, only has sparrows and 9L that are 1 flared easily
we can do a mirror matchup and ill show you that I 100% know more about ratefighting in the MiG-29 than any other person in this forum lmao

R-27R does have advantages, I’m not saying it’s worse in every way.
It’s much worse for BVR than AIM-7F/M and its HOBS capabilities don’t really matter, they only matter for Fox 3s.
R-27R is better than AIM-7F/M in situations where you would fire an AIM-9 or R-73.
Try a 1v1 with a friend, F-14A with 2 AIM-7Fs vs F-14A IRIAF with 2 R-27Rs and let us know if you’ve changed your mind.
Most of my matches I get a kill by launching a 27ER at long range and using my TWS radar to lock>launch>unlock> turn away and turn my radar to the target>soft lock> lock when 27ER is near target.
Furthermore there is no radar/missile combo more reliable for all aspect than the R-27R/ER with the mig29 or yak141
I still do that with 27Rs but under 15-20km (where I only need to use HMD)
Also back to the 29
The F15A sits at the same BR as the 29G, and with ERs id say both are somewhat decently balanced against each other.

the 29A would get eaten for breakfast at the same BR, there is no way a 29A with only R73 is defeating a 9M slinging F15A
you dont seem to notice something when using the TWS in the mig-29 compared to oter radars
it dosent automatically adjust your radar to stay on the target, ontop of struggeling to find targets in the first place which will any US radar at the BR do better

the point of this is about removing the ER
The R27Rs effective range if the target is maneuvering is like 8km dawg
I know its disadvantages and I work around that. Much better than the average F-16 radar, which doesn’t even have TWS.
The F-18 or MLU don’t have access to HMD so the mig29a is still an arguably superior radar kit
why would you need TWS when you are going to hardlock the target anyways

F-15A should be 13.3 now that decompression is occurring again.
I still don’t use R-27ERs on 29G, only on 29 9.12 and more recently 9.13.
I climb to 9000 meters with 9.12/9.13 and out-range anyone and everyone because R-27ER acceleration is cracked.
For 29G I play it like I do F-16A and like I did Gripen, because 2x ERs are pretty much variety when they replace R-73s.

6x R-73s is funnier and simpler. There’s no reason for me to use any other loadout with that jet.
And with my 1.9:1 KDR in my Mig-29G, it works great.
