The OSA-AKM in game currently operates like any other SAM system, having SACLOS guidance.
However I think it might be worth to test a fully automatic guidance mode* where as long as there is a radar lock, the missile will guide itself with no user input. While this does have a few advantages (better leading), it also has a few disadvantages (such as not being able to alter the missile’s path).
To clarify, I am not asking to test a mode similar to the Pantsir or Tor, rather a mode that will behave a lot more similar to SARH missiles on aircraft.
I would support testing of this kind of guidance, especially if it applies to all SAMs that have this feature IRL
However, I would imagine this being a bit too strong, so I would suggest some kind of ballistic lead indicator instead, so its easier to lead missiles towards targets that are further away without wasting too much energy. This also might help at dealing with targets that are a very close.
I mean, that is already what Pantsir and Tor do, you just want it to be implemented on the locked target, not side targets. And there are many other systems that use the same principle, that is they are saclos. Crotale NG, Roland, Stormer HVM off the top of my head.
Side targets it is fully automatic yeah but you need a second target to switch to for the first one to be fully automatic. Cant have it with only a single target
Should be fine though, even with EO tracking mode it still guides the missile using radar signals which are sent to the missile, this will still trigger RWR (if they can detect the appropiate radar band) and in some cases also give launch warning.
And even if they can’t detect the radar band (in this case it would be J-band), the missile probably leaves a big smoke trail so it’s not invisible either. Not to mention there are systems in-game already that give 0 launch warning, albeit with no automatic guidance.
