[POLL] OSA-AKM Fully automatic missile guidance

The OSA-AKM in game currently operates like any other SAM system, having SACLOS guidance.
However I think it might be worth to test a fully automatic guidance mode* where as long as there is a radar lock, the missile will guide itself with no user input. While this does have a few advantages (better leading), it also has a few disadvantages (such as not being able to alter the missile’s path).

To clarify, I am not asking to test a mode similar to the Pantsir or Tor, rather a mode that will behave a lot more similar to SARH missiles on aircraft.

*Only when using the tracking radar, not IRST

Actually, I’m not sure if the OSA-AKM even has a SACLOS mode irl in the first place

I would support testing of this kind of guidance, especially if it applies to all SAMs that have this feature IRL

However, I would imagine this being a bit too strong, so I would suggest some kind of ballistic lead indicator instead, so its easier to lead missiles towards targets that are further away without wasting too much energy. This also might help at dealing with targets that are a very close.

It’s already been tested on the pantsir.

The Pantsir has the ability to essentially Fox 1 from the ground.

No, it is very inaccurate and only provides basic lead that is applied to SACLOS on the pantsir

I mean, that is already what Pantsir and Tor do, you just want it to be implemented on the locked target, not side targets. And there are many other systems that use the same principle, that is they are saclos. Crotale NG, Roland, Stormer HVM off the top of my head.

No. It is very janky on the pantsir and tor because it is just lead applied to your SACLOS guidance. The whole point is to make it more accurate

Do you mean the main target, or side targets on the Pantsir? As side targets are full ACLOS. Sure it is janky as hell, but still ACLOS.

It is only proposed as a test, it can easily be applied on other systems if the test is successful

Side targets it is fully automatic yeah but you need a second target to switch to for the first one to be fully automatic. Cant have it with only a single target

Yep, but i find that quite easy to do. Most of the time there is a stray drone or bomb that will get locked.
Shameless Pantsir plug

And TBH in OSA case that could work even with TV track, due to how the system works.

More of a balancing thing, give warning to the enemy that they are being tracked when you have the fully automatic guidance

In all honestly there’s other missiles systems acting like that. VT1 is one of them, having both SACLOS and ACLOS

Absolutely needed.

We should have fully automatic SAMs at this point. The SACLOS handicap against F&F munitions is silly.

Basically every radar SPAA system in the game is automatic irl

Should be fine though, even with EO tracking mode it still guides the missile using radar signals which are sent to the missile, this will still trigger RWR (if they can detect the appropiate radar band) and in some cases also give launch warning.

And even if they can’t detect the radar band (in this case it would be J-band), the missile probably leaves a big smoke trail so it’s not invisible either. Not to mention there are systems in-game already that give 0 launch warning, albeit with no automatic guidance.

yeah, should be automatic, but then also needs to be applied to everything else as well and they wont. Like the Stormer HVM

Maybe it started that way, not anymore, 2s6 is nerfed as well.

Not like the strella

Strela is an IR missile
