From my past years of playing this game, the community has seemed to be in agreement: The map, Battle of Hurtgen Forest, sucks in its design and needs to be removed from the game. A majority of players seem to hate it and can’t stand playing it. So, here is a poll, and hopefully if we get enough votes we can pass this to the devs.
Currently, it has severe issues with enemy flanking and spawn camping along the South edge. From the very start of the match, the enemy is already spawn-camping. On the single-cap layouts, again, very poor design that makes gameplay very poor in quality.
[Delete “Battle of Hurtgen Forest” from Ground Battles?]
I think Battle of Hürtgen Forest should not be removed rather limited to a certain battle rating or the larger version more easily accessible for higher battle rating. Saying so I’m neutral.
Including the full map without redlines and crayons is quite fun at WW2.
However, since they added the redlines and crayons and only give you like 1/3 of the map at a time (and with very misguided objective design), it’s much less so.
I’d say put it out of its misery or give us the full map back again.
I’d rather have Alaska and Breslau deleted from the game forever, Hurtgen forest is alright but not the worst there is.
P.S to any Gaijin employee reading this, please give us FULL American Desert, there is an entire modeled area that went unused, and it’s quite awesome. Top tier would benefit a lot now that we have multi system AAs.
We already had Red Desert in the game, then removed for unknown reasons. The devs just don’t care. The weakness of WT ground has ALWAYS been maps. We get a map trickled in every 8 months and one removed about as quickly. Pradesh had its problems, but i’d rather play that then Hurtgen at 10.0+. Nope, gone. We will never have variety, we will never have quality.
Red Desert was never removed, as much as I agree with American Desert recieving the larger version its geography doesn’t help its situation, the map can be divided in two big parts: the depressions and the high ground, which will lead people to going for the city exclusively because of this flaw.
Most of the ground maps in this game are not suitable nor designed for high tier gameplay. Most are way too small for high tier gameplay, poor spawn locations, capture points are also poorly designed and much too small. I believe this has contributed to the op cas. There’s also inconsistency in the maps for conquest matches as some of the maps have the same borders as the domination matches yet other maps are butchered and redlined. Looking at Cargo Point as an example.
Maps appear to be an afterthought because they don’t directly generate revenue for gaijin. One would think charging over $70 for a single vehicle that some of the profit would be allocated to proper map design and implementation. Playing the same maps over and over again gets tedious no matter if you have a shiny new vehicle.
So much potential for some great maps but it’s just not happening for whatever reason. Too bad.
Finally it appears that the majority of the players prefer small maps with the street to street fighting more appropriate for infantry than maps that are appropriate for actual tank vs tank combat. It is what it is unfortunately.
As for the Hurtgen Forest map I’d rather see it expanded and redesigned than removed.
