I noticed something strange with the PLZ05’s BEA1 SAPCBC round.
After the recent buff, its explosive filler was changed to JHL-3, giving it roughly 8.9 kg TNT equivalent and around 59 mm of HE penetration . However, the round seems to not trigger overpressure in situations where other explosive/HE-type shells with significantly less TNT equivalent do .
This suggests that overpressure is not simply determined by explosive mass or HE penetration. There seems to be another shell-specific damage/overpressure parameter involved.
That’s especially strange because the BEA1 has:
- ~166 mm kinetic penetration
- ~59 mm HE penetration
- ~8.9 kg TNT equivalent
Yet a shell with much less explosive filler can trigger overpressure against the same target, while the BEA1 cannot.
Is this intended because of the SAPCBC damage model, or is the BEA1 missing an overpressure-related parameter in its damage model?
