I do admire the optimism, but I think the raw flight performance, and sheer payload capacity of the true ASF’s we have, is just so far beyond the ol’ Shar, that even when buffed, it’s hard to see it being anything more than an underdog at the best of times.
Having the best irl doesnt mean anything in a video game where the balance point is based on BRs a vehicle ends up at, which is just controlled by gaijin… not irl…
This is literally only because USA pilots (my name) aren’t capable of usually utilizing the american jets to their fullest extent. If they did, the F-15E is pretty much untouchable rn.
Most top tier is BVR and the shar has one of the best radars missile and RWR as well as a lot of CM. Yes in a dogfight it will get stomped but if they fix its FM it will definitely not get stomped as bad as it does. The only planes that would reliably counter this planes low altitude low speed maneuverability are planes like the F16 and J10. It will beat out F15s in a WVR dogfight as it has done IRL and with AMRAAMS if they try extend away it wont end well.
MiG-23 radar is far worse than F-4J/F-4S which makes that claim faulty, MiG-29s at 12.7 basically ONLY have the radar missiles going for them as their IR missiles, radars, and FM are worse than the same BR americans… they also aren’t as meta defining as the F-14s.
F14s are just broken right now they shiuldnt be a barometer for judgement ad everybody with a brain knowns they are undertiered, top tier air is in dire need of decompression, aircraft wuthout fox 3s thst are in fox 3 brackets are unplayable (of course not phoenixes)
This is true, but we are now seeing Eagles tearing about at 10,000m, Mach 2+, Slinging AMRAAM’s around with insane velocity, that Shar has no realistic hope of competing against unless the Eagle majorly fumbles up.
A lot of american players a real quick at glossing over just how many 27ERs that the russian planes are carrying. When it comes to BVR tactics you often need to take shots at ranges where you don’t seriously expect a hit, but that long range shot forces the opponent to maneuver into a worse position that you subsequently leverage to your advantage. The overwhelming majority of russian planes only carry a sparse two Fox-1s. That’s not enough for serious BVR duels. If I have to choose between two 27ERs and six sparrows then I’m taking the sparrows EVERY time.
For about a week or two the Yak-141 could carry four 27ERs but americans cried and that got changed. Russia didn’t get fox-1s in any serious quantity until the Flanker was added. Nowadays the flanker is deep within matchmaking range of fox3 hell.
Like others have said, you only get 2 vs 4 or 6 if you go all sparrows.
R24R is better than the sparrows, but we get 2 of them, and the plane that fires them does not have PD at BVR altitudes, so you basically have to look for contrails and point in that direction and pray it finds them. The even bigger problem imo with the mig23, is the the RWR does not pick up other mig 23 either radar pings or launches. So many times you will climb in your mig 23, and then just die out of nowhere from a r24r that you had no idea was coming thanks to this, making it a literal gamble climbing. The R24R does have a nice feature of not needing to maintain lock, just radar illumination on the target after launch, not sure if sparrows have the same feature.
And like the other guy said, having more missiles let you use them as a way to force your opponent to do something, with no intention of that missile actually hitting but putting them in a bad position defending from it, with only 2 missiles you severely limited in your ability to use them in this way.
