When you spend your time hitting enemy plane’s missiles/bombs its meaningless too, I guess.
I guess, when you spend your time trying to win the battle its meaningless too. Thats the reason why GRB can’t have a good gamemode, lol, players want pew pew and don’t care about gamemode’s rules and points.
dumb take, the difference is impact of your actions in the match…
hitting bombs/missiles, while the impact is way smaller than other actions, still prevents a greater impact for enemies team: you prevent someone from your team to die, preventing a teammate to leave earlier and helping to keep pressure in the map… killing bots basically have zero impact since killing then you are not effectively removing the enemy player from its position and they do not pose a real threat on their own against you, its just a noise in the match.
“bot is your equipment and spawn”, so give the players these tools/mechanics in some other way. you literally dont need bots to have these tools/mechanics.
saying “everything is meaningless” is dumb. some actions actually move the match forward to win. thats exactly what makes a action meaningful in a multiplayer game. and killing bots is in the lowest possible point of that.
They do not pose a real threat on their own YET. In first and early CBT. In CBT where squad mechanic clearly wasn’t the main thing they tested. As it had way less features implemented as the same mechanic in Enlisted.
I believe they should work in two modes - wandering around with less reaction and spot distance and “sit in place” mode with higher spotting distance and reaction time of a good player. So you could actually use a bot at least as a turret or something.
And in wandering around mode, if you could be able to order them to look at specific target… Something like, you mark a position for them and they go towards it with increased reaction, like… You engaged in combat with an enemy and you order your bot to cover you while you are healing or something…
Well, it all just a matter of implementation. I see bots as wandering turrets, additional “eyes” (if bots will warn you about things, such as enemy grenades, sniper’s shots, machinegun’s fire and such.) and additional respawns without the need to sit in respawn menu.
Bots should pose a threat just by themselves to not be a free kills, but they should be way more effective when a player orders them something. To not reproduce naval’s “anti-air caliber” problem. When it shot enemy boats and planes without player’s interaction. From 10km away. With highest precision and instant reaction.
That, while true, will not be achievable in games in the near future. Gaijin can’t manage simple data traffics, they’re basically DDoSing themselves in an ironically routine way. True humanoid AI is a “never” future thing for WT
Maybe they just don’t react to your feedback. I for one like the idea of bots in the game. Could they be better implemented? Absolutely. The AI is “restarted” to put it mildly. But, if they can make it better, I think the AI squad members are a really cool idea that I really like in enlisted. Also provides more things to shoot at for XP and keeps battles crowded while also keeping server sizes down (and consequently server functions better).
Theres going to be another mode for no squads. THIS ISN’T BF OR COD. I’ve had to tell people like you in the comments that shi doesn’t work. Its more arcady for lone wolf bf/cod gameplay if anything it should be in arcade but there will be another mode for folks like you, stop trying to ruin the infantry mode in general.
I like the idea of AI squads for the reasons you mention;
However, in Enlisted at least, they are more of a nuisance than anything else;
You try to take cover behind a cover… and you get; two AIs standing ON TOP of the cover, and another IN FRONT of it; not only exposing your position and making it impossible for you to sneak or conceal yourself, but also getting themselves and yourself killed.
Enlisted devs updated them only once in five years. They never developed the core mechanic of their game that they advertised everywhere in promo materials.
AI squads should lead to a more casual and less sweaty experience, as well as bring a bigger sense of battle and make it feel of a larger scale.
If only they polished them to actually know how and when to take cover, etc. Apparently they improved this field for War Thunder, I hope it really is the case!
