Firstly, plz look at this vid.
An AGM-62A ER missile detonated directly above the T-80U’s engine compartment.
That’s the equivalent of 264.36 kg of TNT.
The only significant damage to this tank was to the external 12.7mm heavy machine gun, which was repaired in just about 3 seconds. Not a single piece of ERA armor was peeled off, the engine didn’t turn yellow, the gun barrel didn’t crack, and of course, the tracks weren’t damaged either. Amazingly, I was told it was a HIT.
That’s right. A “HIT” from 264 kg of TNT. If this were a Western tank, it would have been a spectacular sight.
Every module would have turned black, and the crew would have been knocked unconscious.
In the most recent update, bombs now remain lodged in the hull.
This is a great update for players who use time-delay fuses.
However, when bombs fail to inflict proper damage like this, it’s completely pointless.
Currently, in Warthunder, small-caliber HE rounds and bombs deal excessive damage, while explosives of a certain size or larger don’t function properly.
For example, the 37.4 mg of explosive in an Oerlikon 30mm round can knock out the turret crew of an M48 Patton in a single shot, yet 152mm/155mm HE rounds don’t perform very well against tanks.
In the real world, too, a 155mm howitzer shell is indeed capable of leaving a structure like a tank largely intact. However, the story is different for the crew inside. Even if the shockwave from the explosive fails to deform the tank, it can turn the crew members inside into red stains on the floor or seats.
The same goes for the AGM-62 and AGM-65. The larger the explosive charge, the more effectively it should work.
It doesn’t make sense to claim that a tank couldn’t be destroyed simply because the shell hit the barrel, struck the edge of the turret, or because it was a Soviet or Chinese tank.
However, since the overpressure system isn’t functioning effectively, I’d like to make a suggestion.
The revival of the hull-break system.
In the real world, modern tanks in particular do indeed possess remarkable resistance to explosives. However, the blast resistance of current Eastern Bloc tanks goes beyond what is considered reasonable. This is because even if the hull is destroyed, the crew—the weakest component inside—remains unharmed.
I believe that if this system were implemented only against bombs, guided bombs, and missiles of a certain caliber or higher—rather than the large-caliber AP or HE shells used in the past—the kind of situation Gaijin feared last time would not occur.
I’d like to hear the opinions of other users.
Do you agree with Return the Hull break system for ONLY large-calibre HE shells, bombs and rockets?
- Return the Hull Break System
- Not Need
