Please add ability to unload a shell from the breech

Dear Devs!

I would like to have the ability to unload a shell from the breech without shooting.

In some cases this can be useful. For example for vehicles that do not have alot of ammo. Also when you dont want to give away your position (ambush situation).

I dont know if this is possible for vehicles with autoloader, but it definitly is for vehicles without and it is not commonly used in battle situations maybe, but it is technically possible to do it and definitly a thing that is trained in armed forces.

Thank you very much.

  • Yes, this is a feature i would like to see in War Thunder.
  • I dont see the use in it, but why not.
  • I think this should not be in War Thunder.

Mate just make a suggestion not a discussion thread.

So you want to reload in 20 seconds instead of 7 seconds? lol

It would not be very realistic on some tanks. An example is that many former (and current) M1 crews say it is not a good idea to try to unload a round, because the 120 uses combustible cartridge casings, the cartridge has a good chance to break rather than successfully be unloaded. I’m not even sure if T series tanks can at all. And even if they do unrealistically add this, why would it be useful? It’s faster to just shoot the loaded round, then load a different one. You still have a chance of doing something with the round you have loaded, even if bad for that job.

What do you think happens when the action ends and they still have ammo loaded? They just do a 21 gun salute? What do you think they would do if they HAD to load a different round and had one loaded? Say, to AMBUSH a target SNEAKILY without raising suspicion?

Unloading is often unrealistic, potentially dangerous, and almost always impractical. (I recall watching a video the Chieftain made on this where he talked about the risk of case separation). Even ignoring all that, It’d take multiple times longer than just firing off what’s already loaded.

I think the much more realistic solution would just be to give an option to turn off automatic loading of the next round.

I.e, when enabled, after firing the breach stays empty, and the loader doesn’t put another one in until you manually press 1/2/3 etc to tell him what shell to load next.

They’d shoot the round they had and probably have a lap load ready for the next one to hit with what’s actually needed before the receiving end gets their bearing and understands what happened. If they’re truly in the position you speak of. However, I’m not a tanker, just an answer from my ass.

Suggestion? Can you tell me where I do that? I honestly did not know there is a better way to communicate such stuff.

Thank you.

Okay, I just found it. Different section of the forum. Thanks for advice!

Not realistic. Just give us an option to keep the breech empty until we are ready to load.

Hi! So as other users already mentioned these kind of posts are supposed to be suggestion threads rather than normal ones.
To create a suggestion follow the normal procedure of creating a new thread but when choosing the category scroll down until you find this:

The green tags belong to the suggestions. Furthermore make sure to set the proper suggestion optional tags:

Since Suggestions need to be looked at and approved your post will not immediately be seen but it will remain pending until suggestion moderators have a look at it. If I were you I would write down the suggestion, copy the text and save it somewhere in case the suggestion does not fit the forums standards, so that you don’t lose your work and can fix it later on to get it implemented.

One note, if your suggestion gets denied you can PM a suggestion moderator and ask them the reason.

Make sure to check HERE the rules on how to create a suggestion.
