Hello! This is a post I’m making on how I think aircraft carriers would work in WT. This isn’t a suggestion as I’m not telling Gaijin why I think they should be added or how this would benefit Naval. I’m simply making this because i think aircraft carriers would be cool to have and this is how I think they would work.
Disclaimer: This suggestion is for WW2 Aircraft Carriers!
How it would work with Planes
The Aircraft Carrier would serve as a support vehicle within War Thunder, being most viable in Naval EC to help provide air support. The Aircraft Carrier can have other players spawn on it, repair/replenish ammo on it, and the player that controls the Aircraft Carrier can also spawn in their own planes. In this post I will go over how the players can spawn on it, rearm on it, and certain scenarios.
The Aircraft Carrier will have designated spawn points in it. These are the spots where a plane will spawn when they use the Aircraft Carrier to spawn in or when they have landed and replenished/repaired their aircraft. The spawn points on this example are designated by the red boxes:
Please note! This is just a rough concept! Some Aircraft carriers will have more spawn points than others!
Unlike with Big ships that have hydroplane launcher, if the player who’s playing the aircraft carrier deploys his plane, it is not automatically launched into the air. You spawn on own of the Spawn points and then take off normally. You will have a total of 3 planes that you can spawn. If you crash one then you will have to wait a certain amount of time before you can spawn another one. If you return to your Aircraft carrier and land you can either A. Take off again and do another attack or B. Return to controlling the aircraft carrier. If you chose B, then after 30 seconds after your aircraft is repaired/replenished and moved to a Spawn point, it’ll disappear so other players can spawn in and take off. Don’t worry it’s not lost and you’ll still have 3 planes. You can also switch between Ship and plane freely when you have a plane deployed. It’ll act similarly to the current scout planes.
what happens when the Aircraft Carrier is full?
If the Aircraft Carrier is full and someone lands on it, their plane will stay where they landed and wait for a spot to open up. Once someone takes off, the plane that landed will instantly be teleported to the open spot so they can now take off. If the aircraft carrier is full then no one can spawn on it and the player controlling it cannot launch their own plane. If there is someone who is trying to spawn on it or the player who’s playing the Aircraft Carrier wants to deploy their plane when it’s full while someone else who has landed earlier and is now waiting for a spot to open after being repaired/replenished, the person who landed will be prioritized over the person who’s trying to spawn on it. I apologize if that sounded confusing. It’s really hard for me to word it.
How Main Armament and Auxiliary Armament will function when the Aircraft Carrier player is in a plane
When the Player that’s controlling the Aircraft Carrier gets into his own plane, there will be different modes for the Main and Auxiliary Armaments. For the AA guns they will be whatever the player has them set to (Ex. Planes and Boats, planes only, boats only, or nothing). For the Main and Auxiliary Armaments there will be 3 modes: Passive, Neutral, and Aggressive. You can changes these modes while in your plane by using a specific key bind or opening the functions menu. You will be notified when your Aircraft Carrier is being attacked. In Passive the Main and Auxiliary Armaments will ignore everything, whether it attacks the carrier or not, In Neutral the Main and Auxiliary Armaments will only attack Boats that shoot at you first (planes will be ignored), And In Aggressive your Main and Auxiliary Armament will shoot at anything that gets within proximity with you. You’re able to change the proximity of defense through either a key bind or the functions menu when in your plane. The range at which your guns will fire can be anywhere from the max range of your guns to 1 kilometer. When it comes to your guns dealing with planes on Aggressive, I have 3 concepts.
-
Your Main and Auxiliary Armaments will still ignore planes and only shoot at boats.
-
Your Main and Auxiliary Armaments will go for planes and boats regardless of which shell they’re shooting.
-
(my favorite) When your Main and Auxiliary Armaments go for boats they will use shells better for boats (HE, SAP, or APHE) and when they go for planes they will switch to shells better for dealing with planes (HE-TF or HE-VT). If your Auxiliary Armaments have HE-TF or HE-VT but you didn’t bring HE-TF or HE-VT with your Main Armaments, only your Auxiliary Armaments will fire at planes while your Main Armaments will target boats and vice versa. In short, your guns will only target what they have ammo for.
While in Aggressive, your Main and Auxiliary Armaments will also preform the role of Neutral, attacking anything that attacks you as long as it’s in range.
Extra notes
The current Japanese Aircraft Carrier (on the test flight map) would only be useable by planes that can take off quick due to its lack of a catapult.
This is really just a concept. I haven’t put this in suggestions as I don’t know where I would put this. If you have any other ideas or questions, please let me know!
(Mods, please don’t close this :( )
