I think half the point is that other aircraft like the SU-30SM2 and even the Rafale dont actually have to leave the Notch to fire.

The Rafale most certainly does need to leave the notch. Its gimbal is only 140º which makes micas kinda hindered by it. R-77-1 would do almost as well at short ranges where the rafale can actually launch.
Only the SM2 can shoot while notching, and remain there the entire time

Yes, to fire. Because Aim-120B/C5s are limited to being fired within their FoR, which is 110. So you have to angle about 45-50 degrees out of the notch to be able to fire and then return again.

If you’ve got the positioning right, it shouldn’t be a problem you’ve always got time to fire, return to the notch and track the missile.

It has been for me, vs anything. Especially when at alt. the number of times ive not been able to fire, because ive had to stay in the notch because ive got something spamming missiles at me is just stupid.
