Planned Battle Rating Changes (August 2026)

Aircraft: F-4J Phantom II

Reason:

  • Poor maneuverability compared to other aircraft at the same BR.
  • Inferior weapon systems compared to its competitors.
  • Inferior radar performance.
  • Lacks a modern and advanced HUD compared to many aircraft it faces.
  • Heavier aircraft than most opponents in the same BR bracket.

Suggestion:
Reduce the Battle Rating from 12.0 to 11.3.

Additional Notes:
The F-4J Phantom currently struggles to remain competitive against aircraft with superior maneuverability, avionics, radar systems, and overall performance. Lowering its BR to 11.3 would provide a more balanced matchmaking experience and improve its effectiveness without making it overpowered.

I shoot there and shoot there and shoot there(it never works)

it literally is impenetrable to anything with less than 100mm of pen

Is this proposal for Air RB???

If so, holy skill issue, Batman.

It has PD radar AND HMD. It’s clearly not equal to the F-4E.

oh my HMD it’s certainly going to allow for some high off boresight sparrow shots
F-106 has HMD at 9.3

Or just move it up to 9.3 without changing a thing. Supersonics sub 9.3 are annoying as hell to deal with

PD radar and Aim-7F

Yeah no.

Not only does it completely destroy the F-4E at 11.3, but its not even the weakest 12.0 Phantom. Thats the F-4JUNK.

No, it’s not a skill issue, and there’s no need to act like you’re some professional player.

Compared to the other aircraft at its current BR, the F-4J is heavier, less maneuverable, and has inferior radar performance. That’s simply a fact.

At 12.0 it regularly faces F-16s, F/A-18s, modern MiGs, and other aircraft with significantly better flight performance and avionics. My point isn’t that the F-4J is a bad aircraft—it’s that it’s no longer competitive enough in its current matchmaking.

You’re free to disagree, but dismissing the argument as a “skill issue” doesn’t change the aircraft’s actual performance relative to its opponents.

None of those are 12.0 though.

Sure, compression sucks and you are outclassed in an uptier…

But compared to actual 12.0s the only thing stronger than it is the Tonkas, and only in BVR.

Now have a look at the F4JUNK that only has Aim-7E-2s

The F-4J is a fighter-interceptor, not a dedicated air-superiority fighter built for prolonged dogfights. Its strengths are long-range interception, radar-guided missiles, speed, and high-speed performance—not sustained turning.

At its current BR, especially in uptiers, it regularly faces F-16s, F/A-18s, and modern MiGs that have significantly better maneuverability, energy retention, and more advanced flight performance. In those matchups, the F-4J is clearly at a disadvantage if the fight turns into a dogfight.

That’s exactly why I believe its current BR deserves to be reconsidered.

Good joke.

It is fine where it is. Decompression could be useful.

Except for the F/A-18, you carry more radar missiles, especially the AIM-7F, than the F-16AJ and MiGs.

Why does this read like AI?

Bro what. I play this vehicle almost exclusively at 6.7 / 7.0 and still do okay with it. I’ve gotten a nuke with it in a full uptier to 7.7 lmao. It needs no BR reduction.

I’m formatting my replies. My English isn’t that good.

and how does it differ from any other F-4 currently at 12.0? Including the 3 that have weaker SARH.

best 12.0 radar only second to Tornado F.3 radar

But f4e is at that br while having no pd radar and worse sparrows

The F/A-18 and F-16 both have superior radar systems compared to the F-4J. Even many MiG variants have radar performance that is equal to or better than the F-4J’s.

Sorry, Mr. Professional Player. But realistically, the F-4J is at a disadvantage at its current BR

Ofc it’s worse than stuff at a higher BR? That’s why they’re a higher BR

It’s still not.

You compared F/A-18 (12.7) to F-4J (12.0). Of course, the F/A-18 has a superior radar system, but that doesn’t mean the F-4J needs to go further down.

F-16As are not much of a threat because they do not have radar missiles except for the F-16AJ with its two AIM-7Fs, so I fail to see the issue here.

The F-4J simply doesn’t belong at 12.0. It’s at a clear disadvantage against many of the aircraft it faces. A reduction to 11.7 would be much more reasonable.
