Every patch or so we get some cool new features for top tier jets. This is great, awesome in fact, don’t stop. Problem is, though, growing pains. The more we get the more a single person is required to juggle in the middle of combat. Information space, flight systems, warnings, threat assessment, target acquisition, etc etc, the list goes on.
This is why some aircraft have two seats, the WZO or otherwise 2nd seat isn’t just an extra person to fly with for fun, they serve a serious role of splitting the workload so the pilot isn’t doing everything, preventing the pilot from easily being overwhelmed and dying in combat situations that otherwise would have been easily avoidable.
This is a topic we need to start discussing especially regards to sim, specifically. It’s time to start seriously discussing a WSO feature specifically for 2 seat aircraft in sim battles. This could mean splitting RP and SL gain, it could mean rewarding gameplay and an interesting new dynamic that could really add tremendous value to sim battles near high tier especially.

Generally an interesting though.
However, we must also consider that at the level of depth WT has, the actual Flying, but especially also avionics & weapons systems are very much simplified/automated here compared to the real thing (or in hardcore sims like DCS or even MSFS, if you look just at flying), thus making the workload for a single crew member quite manageable.

It would be really cool to have a navigator in the back seat handling things so that the pilot could focus on their job more. But I think from a WT perspective the biggest issue is that the controls are just a little clunky at times and the information presented to the player isnt the cleanest.
For example, the new aiming point mechanic could have been baked into the existing CCRP controls but instead are entirely new settings.
And the UI is a cluttered mess with little configurability

Yes, that, and the other way round. In two seaters and dogfight situations, backseaters should call out enemies and their position, etc.
And then on the other hand the pilot should really take care of flying while the player is e.g. heads-down in a typical backseater role when working map, assigning targets, controlling sensors and weapons…
ATM we have a very basic autopilot (if that even warrants that expression), and one is in real danger to lawndart somewhere because one can’t very well control the aircraft AND one’s weapon/sensors at the same time, when in a sensor view, for example…
