Description: The Piaggio P50 II was an Italian four engine bomber that was made before the ww2 . The project started back in 1935. It was based on a previous prototype, the Piaggio P23M. It was designed by the Italian engineer Giovanni Pegna as a high-wing monoplane powered by four tandem engines, two in the front and two in the back . After the first prototype (serial number MM369) flew for the first time on November 16, 1937, the Regia Aereonautica asked for a total of 12 P50, but some months later the program was already cancelled. A second prototype of the P50 I was made (serial number MM370), but this one was made only with metal (the first one was made only with wood). It flew for the first time in 1938. Both units were abandoned, and they never saw service in the Second World War. The P50 II was the development of the P50 I. It was designed in 1936 as an alternative version of the P50 I. It has some radical change regadless the design, with the most notable being the four engine all disposed in the front like every other four engine bomber. It was made all with wood, with the exception of some minor parts on the wings. The only prototype (serial number MM371) made it’s first flight in 24 february 1938. It was basically a sligthy upgraded P50 I with better engines, more defensive armaments and a better payload. It conduct several test in the 1939 but it was judged insufficient because it resulted too heavy and it was not able to score the needed performance. As for the two previous prototype, the fate was the same, the aircraft was abandoned. But thanks to the knowldege gained from this project it was later developed the p108.
Why it should be in the game: It could be an interesting low tier bomber in the line since italy has only two 4 engine bombers
