Ive seen that building & certain ingame objects lack penetration models (brittle clay / brick buildings in desert maps clay/brick buildings, ruined city walls and anything made of concrete generally, icebergs on ice maps)
This takes away from the tactical possibilities that should be present , like APFSDS going through ice , brick buildings , ruined city walls & thin concrete barriers and misses out on elevating the skill-cap at high tier , take for example the case of dealing with an enemy around the corner in the city, this is usually solved by someone pushing with smokes/thermals, getting a good angle or just not engaging. Another option should be to fire through the thin corner of the building to hit the enemy tank on the other side if you know its hull shape. Same should apply for thin concrete barriers & other objects that have 0 penetration models and act as “perfect armor”.
Another example would be dealing with camper’s hiding behind ice on arctic maps, where even after they’re spotted they can’t be readily shot since they either sit in cover and wait to see enemies or they have a very low profile. This gets fixed if APFSDS would also pierce 100mm or more of ice and then pierce the thin hull armor / spall into the light tanks that camp it.
On the one hand, yeah it would make the game a lot more fair, logical, and realistic.
On the other hand, objects in the game are selectively penetrable for playability and strategic reasons. It provides cover for positions etc. For example the little alcove in the connexes that edges into the C point of Cargo Port.
And on the gripping hand, just think how badly this would get abused by cheaters using aimbots and wall hacks. And IDK how this wouldn’t make a bloodbath out of GAB.
Also also;
It would annoy all the old salts and whales who would have to relearn the maps again and that would cost money (both in revising the maps and grumpy players). So Gaijin will never do it. Sorry.
This would definitely be great in naval, since there are so many obstacles that should be easily destroyed by destroyer-calibre guns like containers or lighthouse. +1
