Paper Vehicles: Should they be added, or forgotten?

Of course it was ,as kids we all sat there telling our fathers those tanks wernt real ,same as the famous fake tanks in saving private Ryan and seeing modern tanks fighting ww2 is pathetic to be honest ,anybody would expect some form of era separation in any modern war game.so is WT doing detail or not ?

War Thunder doesn’t claim to be historical battles.
COD MW2019 is more realistic than Insurgency Sandstorm, yet only IS claims to be realistic when it’s using Goldeneye 007’s gunplay from the 1990s.

And no, Willi Odermatt’s formulate doesn’t conflict with actual test data.
It’s correct on DM series of round, Israel’s M series of rounds, USA’s DU rounds, and so forth.
DCS and WT have effectively identical flight model systems.

Do you want the pbv 301 facing f***ing MBTs? Cause thats what you would get. You arent getting so-called ‘immersion’ with a game that has any of the minor nations, and trying to exclude them because ‘muh wasnt in ww2’ is dumb. Historical matchmaking will never happen because it simply is not balanced.

If APHE behaves historically it’d massively benefit the game. I’ll give Gaijin serious respect for that.

Doubt, but again, it depends on the poll. If the playerbase wants realistic APHE, I am fine with it, though I might disagree If they want a more balanced ammunition selection (Like how I have dictated before), then we should get that.

A lot of changes would be necessary for balance. Cupola shots with APHE wouldn’t work nearly as well, and certain tanks rely on such weakspots (Jumbo 75, for example), or some explicitly have the cupola as the main weakspot (Tiger H1, for example).

I fear that the APHE changes will end up going through but no changes to vehicle BRs will happen.

I’m saying having a post war tank killing your tank is immersion breaking… because it is. It’s also balance breaking. Tell me why I’m driving a Tortoise when a Fiat can penetrate my armour no matter how I angle and is faster to go with it? it’s broken, as is the PT76 fighting Tigers, STA’s, Type 60’s, it goes on and on.

The PBV isn’t designed to fight tanks, at most it’s an SPAA at which point what’s the issue with it fighting against aircraft or engaging other lightly armoured APC’s? Light tanks shouldn’t be able to engage heavies or some mediums from the front, this is where a lot of War Thunder’s balance issues have come from.

You mention historical matchmaking isn’t balanced and in some parts that’s true, yet at the same time back when War Thunder gave us historical events for air and ground it was not only more balanced but actually fun and immersive.

These days it’s a case of spawn in an M3 Lee and get one-shot by the late war Puma tank. Or as mentioned drive a heavy tank and get killed by post war ammunition that you have no defence against.

True, but I’m actually all for that and so are many.

Tanks with armour will actually matter again, no more utterly ridiculous 1-shot deaths from cupola hits. Light tanks will actually have to flank and be at risk in head on confrontations as they should be. On top of this AP shots will be less of a handicap as the damage should be more or less similar. Heck even HE filler amount will actually matter then.

The only major change required is to open the maps so light tanks can flank again.

That’s more of a BR compression tbh. Tortoise has it hard that’s true

I mean yeah. Real battles are far more unequal.

If you want immersion you will want the greatest of 1917, the Renoult FT-17, facing off against the M1A2 Sep V1 Abrams while immobilized.
