Hello, Just a quick heads-up — I’ve read other forum posts about the Löwe, so I’m aware it technically can’t be added to the game since it only existed on paper.
However, I have a question:
When comparing the side profiles of the proposed Pz.Kpfw. VII Löwe and the Pz.Kpfw. VI Tiger II (Ausf. B), and looking at their descriptions, the Tiger II’s hull length is listed as 7.38 m, while the Löwe’s would have been about 7.74 m — the extra length likely coming from the larger engine that would’ve needed to fit inside.
The Löwe’s hull would also have been wider than the Tiger II’s due to its round turret.
Yet both designs feature the same number of road wheels — though the Löwe’s would’ve been slightly larger and spaced a bit farther apart to account for the extra ~40 cm in length.
So my question is:
Wasn’t the Löwe’s design intended to use a heavily modified version of the Tiger II’s chassis, but with a completely custom turret?
Additionally, I think there are some good reasons why the Löwe could still make sense in War Thunder:
It was a real documented Krupp project from 1942, not a fantasy tank.
The game already includes several blueprint or prototype vehicles like the E-100, Maus, or Object 279.
The Löwe’s design shares strong technological links with the Tiger II and Maus, making it a natural progression for the German tree.
There’s long-standing community interest, so it would be an appealing premium or event vehicle.
Two main design variants existed (light and heavy Löwe), which could give Gaijin flexibility for balancing and implementation.
At a BR of around 7.3 to 8.0, armor doesn’t play a decisive role anymore, so adding it wouldn’t hurt balance or gameplay.
And I want to point out, that the Ho-Ri Production never existed at all, even less so then the Löwe, yet it’s still in the game.
My arguement here, would be that chassis of the Löwe didnt need to be designed and build, because it already existed, it just had to be modified.
Löwe could be implemented with no issues, at least a suggestion post could be considered if the vehicle provided unique or existant, regarding this you should contact a Suggestion Moderator; equipment build, this vehicle as chance to be implemented in-game.
Thing about vehicles that you mentioned is that they are actually were assembled to some extent (looking at you, E-100, but this thing is an ancient reward for a tournament so everyone lets it slide). Actually good example would be whole, grand total of 2 Ho-Ri tank destroyers in the game.
But Lowe ain’t gonna really bring anything new to the game, so there are barely a reason to actually implement a controversial vehicle like this. Maybe as a dream come true event but that’s about it.
both Maus and Object 279 were (and 279 is still ARE) a working machine. THe E100 ingame features real built hull and maus turret with which it was tested
it wasnt tested with it. it wasnt tested with any turret.
the E-100 chassis was not really made for the Maus I Turm.
thats why the more efficient yet lighter Maus II Turm was designed to be used on the E-100. the gun choice was between the 128 and the 150/2.
yes the in game representation is wrong, yes it is still a real vehicle fulfilling the requirements of addition
The 105 canon wasn’t even done. We have had Tiger 105 in the game and it’s not too different from your regular Tiger 2, you just trade penetration and reload for more TNT.
what i MEAN is, the chassis could not handle the around 80 TON turret of the Maus I.
hence the much lighter Maus II turret was designed for both E-100 and the later to come Maus II.
E-100 was never tested with any turret. it was never even attached with tracks.
and this is not me saying it, its the most knowledgeable historians on the topic of german armour. Hilary, doyle and the likes
im not arguing that the E-100 isnt real.
the current in game representation is fake however
Ah thats the point? I never heard of thatt one before. Was thatt chassis that light that it couldnt handle the mass of the turret?
And also. What were the specs for the new turret that made it much lighter?
The thing about the E-100 and the Maus is that their origin is very complex and mostly rooted in the political rivalry between the Panzer commission/Ferdinand Porsche and Wa.Prüf.6/Kniepkamp.
overall a much lighter armour configuration in terms of thickness however it outperformed the Maus in some areas not due to thickness along the normal but rather LOS thickness.
It made away with thick 200 something side armour and used heavy side skirts to provide spaced armour and made MUCH more efficient use of the allocated weight.
the Maus turret was a complex interlocked set of plates that closed at the front to a curved heavy plate. the Maus II was mostly a program to cut costs and make the production more streamlined. this meant they made the front plate flat but almost equally armoured (at the contruction angle) and the side and rear plates were made much thinner as it wasnt really necessary for it to be a German KV-1 on a triple dose of steroids
Both Ho-Ri’s are fantasy tanks, the Obj. 279 was build but it could never fire its gun, because the recoil of the gun in irl, would destroy the autoloader and trigger the shells in it to explode, not even gonna get started on the E-100 like the guys abouve me.
And not to forget about the Somua SM, which ingame, has double its blueprint and build upper frontplate armor (150mm instead of 75mm)
Ontop of that the game is running out of special tanks Gaijin can add, all the cool prototypes (on all nations btw) are now unreachable for the new players, some new prototype content, outside of the US and UDSSR ones would be amazing.
