What? I prefer good aircraft like the Shackleton
Win rates and KD ratio
Can we all agree that Warthunder needs a good way for experienced players to enjoy low tier planes? Like P-40E and F4F-3 are absolutely goated, but if you wanna play em, you’re forced to face off against noobs.
Spoiler
Only “moral” way to try to spade a low tier prop is to look for the enemy “clubber” and hunt them down.
Did that to a dude who abused the Captured Yak-1B (+60 battles on it) on a J20, which I concluded that…
“holy $hit incediaries suck”.
took me a sweet time to start a fire.
On another note, I believe saw a level 17 learn in real time to boom and zoom on a P-40E, I was spading the I-16 type 24, the dude was on a ramble about “american props suck because they don’t turn well” blah blah blah, and I went on the “All” chat and told him:
“American props are hard for new people”
“I will tell you one tip to get on track”
“You fly into the enemy, fire and if it doesn’t die you run away and try later”
5 minutes later I was the last one fighter on my team and then the dude started to boom and zoom me, he killed me because I ran out speed and altitude and then he thanked me. Saw it had 2 kills on its name :)
Whilst agree in general - your actual ability to kill their best player depends actually on the played nation. Around BR 2.7 are a hell of severely undertiered aircraft (like B-239, P-39, Ki-43, Yak-7B) followed by the BR 3.0 with the omnipresent Yak-1B, USSR Hurricane, JP Bf 109 etc.
So if you want to play Germany in a single engine fighter you need either the 109 E-3 or E-4 to keep the competition at bay - or (if you don’t like 109s like me) i recommend the Swiss C-3604 in case you use a joystick. Excellent firepower and even better turn - i can’t remember having lost a dogfight vs any Yak, LaGG or La-5 with it.
The major downside is that you have the whole bunch of “clubber planes” every match playing against you and that you play basically all matches in 3.3 / 3.7 uptiers paired with tank players using all kinds of twin engine CAS planes.
The captured Yak-1B is basically the only plane for Germany which levels the playing field regarding flight performance - otherwise you get simply overwhelmed by numbers. That is the main reason why i bought one (46 matches, 99:8, 70% WR) with some free GEs.
Imho the BR 2.7 P-40 is not as bad as described by others but the performance gaps between aircraft at this BR are way too large to call it the best starter plane.
If i would use mouse aim i would recommend either the B-239, Yak-7B or the P-39 as starter planes - simply because they perform well even in full uptiers and you get better teams (on average).
As the the P-36 G was mentioned - very good aircraft as opponent. Even the Brits have evaluated that the French Hawk versions were superior to the Spit and Hurricane Mk Is in rate fights (and the French Hawk versions were the only planes in 1940 having a positive K/D ratio vs 109s) - but especially in 3.3 uptiers their slow speed makes them ez prey for real Rank III clubber planes like the MB 157 or 109 F-2.
P-40E is 2.3, not 2.7. And there is a better P-40F on that br. So it’s more like P-40F is the best 2.0 plane (in air arcade)
