It has the same radar as them so it can target at almost the same ranges and also having no tracer or smoke trail when firing which makes it ideal for taking out helicopters.
Italy already has a good SPAA in 9.7 with also a SAM system on it that has almost the same specs as a Sterla.
The OTO gets WAY better APFSDS round then the LvKv. the OTO gets around 310mm of pen while the LvKv only gets around 143mm of pen.
While ideal, you are ignoring that it takes time for the shell to reach the target. A missile will reach a helicopter much faster than a HE-VT shell. Any SAM from 10.3br will be much more effective against air targets than the otomatic due to the fact the missile is faster, and it is easier to lead the missile against maneuvering targets compared to Otomatic.
I don’t see a reason why we can’t have two SPAAs at the same BR, literally Germany has the Gepard 1A2 and Ozelot at 9.7br. Like at this this gives people options against air targets as while the Sidam Mistral is decent, it is not very good against helicopters compared to the otomatic due to locking problems.
Yes it has more pen, while it is limited to 12 shells, the LvKv 9040C does not have this limitation. Not to mention if we look at the tank themselves, the LvKv 9040C has a small profile, 2.5x faster fire rate, and better gun depression.
Its easer to use rounds instead of missiles in some cases cause they don’t see it coming like you would a missile cause they just pop flares and dive under the tree line in most cases. Also how can they maneuver away from rounds they cant even see, you just have to lead to where they are probably going to go and it will probably hit.
The issue is there nothing in 10.0 - 10.7 range which leaves you using the SIDAM. Most helicopters in 10.0 can get out of range of the SIDAM most of the time. Also if you have a solid 10.0 - 10.3 line-up its a lot easer to stay in your BR.
The reason its so good is because Roland radar can almost track them the moment they spawn which is pretty OP, and if you shoot right, you can kill the moments after they spawn as well.
The reason its not limited is because the rounds are not as OP as the OTO. Its so much harder to kill things in the LvKv then it is in the OTO. It doesn’t even need to be faster cause you can pen almost any MBT from the front.
They ended up giving the OTO the way the Gepard loading works which is not at all the way the OTO was made. Its supposed to have a 3 round drum for the APFSDS rounds. The auto loading is only for the HE.
Good luck hitting anything maneuvering at 2-3mi while dumping GBU or maverick, and the STRFs are exceptionally good at killing tanks the only real limit I have in those is the 25 round auto loader due to the fact if you shoot at weak points or flank your pen is enough go through and damage critical components, while pretty much blinding the enemy with the overwhelming sparks from the hits.
Have you even used the OTO? It works great at killing A-10s and A-6s that try to do that but when it starts fighting F-16s that are in space or AH-64s that are 20km away, that’s when its a problem.
Guess what?? the Russian 2s38 was also built as an anti-aircraft platform, but Gaijin has turned it into a light reconnaissance vehicle, and what’s more, it has the ability to hold an entire belt of APSDS.
Surely OTO should be at BR 10.3 but it should maintain its APSDS.
Anyway, it’s useless to complain about the OTO situation, developers don’t care… This forum is useless, and developers haven’t listened to Italy’s problems for years… if you don’t believe it, just look at how many posts there are that talk about the same OTO problem but are ignored.
What’s even worse is that the OTOMATIC is legitimately meant to fight armored vehicles (just like the 2S38). Just look at this bug report: Community Bug Reporting System
