288C is nice low tier grinder on germany,
After latest update, when you get 2 x 2500kg bombs , you get 2 bases in one go.
Also those bombs deal lot of damage in GRB.
Easy silver, easy to play but it is also boring quite fast.
Dont waste your money. its bad. you will get intercepted 7 out 10 games (have fun vs. jets). Every game will be lost anyway, because Germany has no capable fighters in this BR.
I manage to avoid interceptions most of the time even with very slow/vulnerable bomber, by flanking and coming back over objectives later, when the dogfights have already begun. Flying low with + flanking work well also (did that a lot with Ju188). So I am not really scared to get intercepted most of the time.
Thanks for your advice though!
Go for it.
Its a SL printing machine. and a good grinder.
It is literally a the best low tier grinding plane in the game now. Specially with the 2 new bombs
I was able to do the BP mission in one GRB with Ju 288
Also, is a lovely plane to air-SIM battles as well.
this would work just fine, if you take your time. dont except to win any matches at that BR :D
Its fast and annoyingly tanky aircraft. Made nearly of pure asbestos. With a good set of turrets and good coverage. From someone who fights them rather than plays them. It does look like a very good medium bomber, only really hurt by the limited ground target available in ARB
The best money printing bomber, complete with hard hitting turrets, and the speed to get away from planes when you need it
it’s a beast in ground.
fairly fast and with a nice payload.
Just dont fly in a straight line towards the zone but take your time and try to avoid other planes until you have dropped your bombs.
cancer and a plague
288 has almost single handedly ruined 6.0 air, but it’s still an unbeatable SL earner and for germany a fantastic RP maker. I can’t fault you for picking it up even though I HATE the thing.
on the bright side I think 6.0 mm has been freed at least a little, I dont seem to get 6v6 anymore
For me,it’s a pretty good opponent if the user KNOWS how to use it properly,it’s pretty manueverable, and tenacious, making it harder to hit down.
Yes totally agree
May i ask why you bought it and flew it just 3 times?
Its the single best SL printer in the game from a passive gameplay standpoint and its not even close.
All you do is point your nose at a base, watch youtube or whatever for 2 minutes, drop your bombs, fight off people on your tail if they are there, point at airfield, afk again, land, takeoff rinse and repeat. It’s the one of the fastest bombers in the entire game relative to what it fights, and basically only touchable in full uptiers.
Don’t ping for a base, and don’t respect them either. Point at a base, when you come back look at the minimap, if someone is in front of you heading for that base its not yours anymore switch bases. Obviously check heading before you point at a base too, make sure you are in front for that one.
The turrets are also very deadly, if you get decent at them you’ll be at least criting anyone that goes for you 80% of the time if you are paying attention.
Bring the napalm loadout, I think you can get 1 base with 2 and snag half of a second base. You can’t make custom loadouts otherwise just bringing 2 napalm would be better. I haven’t played it in a while you’ll have to see what nets you the most score, im guessing its the 3 napalm loadout. Check you score after getting 1 base and compare that to other loadouts, you want to run the loadout that gives you the most score for a single base. I don’t think the ju288 has any 1 base loadouts that isn’t severly over nerfed on rewards like the double 2500 but you can check.
My guess is the best loadout is either 2 1800kg or 3 napalm. Napalm weighs significantly less so your flight performance is going to be better, but if you get significantly less score for only getting 1 base vs 2 1800 and it forces you to get 1 1/2 bases to get similar score it might be better just running the 1800’s.
Or i have some SL boosters ill check, havent played this thing in forever.
Yep take 2 1800’s, you get the same for 1 base that you do for getting 1 1/2 with 3 napalm. You also don’t piss off someone on your team taking half a base, and you don’t have to stick around for longer its a no brainer.
JU 288C are the most unrealistic and under tiered plane in War Thunder the pilots that use them religiously are responsible for more spawn camping than any others and because allied bombers don’t have Incendiary at br6 in sim the 288 completely ruins the game and causes half allies to quit by bombing spawns on all the fwd airbases especially Denmark which for some ridiculous reason in sim Gaijin has removed the AAA from fwd Airfields
I own a ju288 but don’t use it as they are far to OP and unrealistic for me to the point they even get an airspawn in sim !! I have been a real pilot for 20 years and not even modern twin engine planes can climb 5000 ft vertical fully loaded like 288 does in sim and finally to top it all off they seem to have a never ending amount of ammo for tail Gunner unlikerest of bombers
The only bomber that can compete with ITIN sim is the Shackleton in brit tree yet Gaijin put that at 6.3 even tho the 288 outperforms it and is only at br6
Whilst i fully agree from a game play perspective i am not sure if you are actually on target with what kind of goals and mindset is motivating the average player to buy a Ju 288 and to participate in Air RB.
-
From my perspective the plane is (besides the captured Yak-1B which requires at least some skill) the only reliable and easy to use grinding tool in the German prop BR range - not more, not less.
-
So for the player focused on Ground RB whilst having no intense passion for aircraft the Ju 288 offers the maximum outcome for the smallest possible skill necessary - the perfect grinding tool.
But:
- From my pov the Ju 288 is also a prime example of the general downfall of prop Air RB, the demise on the German air supremacy and the severely deteriorated average pilot/player skill - and i would not even take one for free (for warbonds) these days.
But this just my own opinion - simply because i have all i need and i am not trapped in the hamster wheel called grind.
Why it makes no real sense for experienced pilots (without grinding intentions) to fly this plane:
- Countless open and hidden nerfs of Ju 288s over the years
- Severe lack/absence of game impact of Ju 288s / bombers in general
- Stupid BR placement at 6.0 thx to incompetent fighter players
So whilst pre May 2020 (=introduction of respawning bases) the plane could decide tight matches in the axis vs allies world and was in the right hands a real threat to untrained enemies, the people which are buying the plane right now have usually no clue how good the plane was in the past.
-
From a pilot’s perspective the Ju 288 was nerfed into oblivion - i stopped playing it on my old Microsoft xbox account mid 2020 as it made for me no real sense to bomb respawning bases.
-
I played 5.172 matches with 56% WR (800 kills, 1.670 deaths) just for fun - even admitting that fun vanished almost entirely after the A2D-1 was introduced and the WR droppod from well above 60% to the final level.
-
But you could at least avoid the usual ticket defeats vs US teams with hordes of AD-2s & 4s (which murdered your own tickets early game) by killing 8 moving tanks with 8 SC 250 drops as axis teams (fighters) had severe issues to kill pillboxes or tanks.
For people who wants to see the former potential of the plane i recommend to look for vids from 2020 or older. Regarding more recent experiences i recommend to watch this 7 kill game of hitman in a full downtier from 2021:
I recommend that undecided players (buying or not buying) check the emedded texts describing the most noticeable downsides.
Have in mind that almost all bombers saw a large increase in artificial bullet dispersion of their turrets (around late 2022) - imho the sole exceptions are the 20 mms in the Pe-8 and the G8N1 which are real sniper weapons.
Have a good one!

From my pov you can’t assess realism (“unrealistic”) based on your irl experiences as wt offers even in Air SB just their interpretation of realism. From a general perspective wt and irl are separate worlds.
-
Imho the title of being the most undertiered plane in wt at prop BRs depend on the game mode. For Air RB it might be won by the USSR with the BI rocket fighter, whilst Yak-3U, Yak-3 or the P-51 H-5 might have a chance too.
As both of your posts are referring to Air SB: Technically seen your posts are off-topic as the OP stetes clearly:
…and the thread is tagged as Realistic Battle “air”.
Regarding the rest of your post:
-
Iirc correctly a few dozens of Ju 288s saw combat in 1944. So comparisons with post-war aircraft make technically no sense.
-
Whilst it is rather sad to read that you have negative experiences fighting Ju 288s - have in mind that you refer to Air SB - Air SB is an absolute niche mode (provided by @Bruce_R1 ):
…as displayed in this thread (link). -
Your 2 posts might be suited to support sales of Ju 288s for players thinking about switching from Air RB to Air SB in the future. I am not sure if this was intended by you.
-
I recommend to relax.
Have a good one!
