Opening War Thunder’s Official Discord Server!

Gaijin opens an official WT discord server

Looks inside

Media permissions left on

Dozen or so mods vs 17k members

Full of NSFW, arguments worse than Xbox 360 COD lobbies after Christmas, and alleged document leaks.

Congrats Gaijin you’ve made a server that’s more uninhabitable than the remains of the reactor room of Chernobyl reactor No.4.

It still doesn’t get better, even with media permissions off

Least we wont have to play the stupid game every 2 days to be able to comment on the forum

Hey Do you have acces to information on why i was timed out for 1 day? I have no idea why
I think there might be some cases of mod abuse. Me and my friends got muted the same from probally the same mods Just mere instance of mentioning statshark or joking about not being able to mention third party products is instant mute without warnning. And I got no messesage with a reason so I dont even know why I got mutedI genuinely did not break any rules but still got muted simmilary like my friends without given reason

It definetly needs way more channels, 1 chat channel for the whole playerbase was going to turn wrong quickly (2 min cooldown).

Gaijin really messed up, I don’t know why they decided to open up the server right away. It should have been open to join but with no text channels opened, just resources and announcements. Later they could’ve slowly opened up the server with text only channels to contain the trolls.

I don’t know why they decided to go with this approach, putting all the burden on the mods and making the experience for everybody toxic and just unusable. I left. Sorry for all the mods who have to put up with this for another day or two. You have my sincere condolences.

But if you don’t play, then what do you even have to comment about?

You have Reddit for that - look how fabulous that is…

You new to humanity?

Single handedly the best thing and the worst thing gaijin has ever done, literally. The best thing because i havent laughed like that in a long time and the worst thing because what were they expecting from WT players?? In the wise words of some guy i found in the server, “giving WT players an official discord server is like giving a monkey an ak-47”.

Ah so another platform where the wants and needs of the community will be ignored. PEAK

It would be odd to let users who no longer play the game commend on the state of the game and leave feedback for something they don’t use. It wouldn’t make sense.

The restrictions are also slightly more lax than that. 3 matches gives you forum access for a week, 15 matches gives you access for a month so you can play those matches in short succession and don’t need to spread it out over time if you don’t want to.

Edit:
15 battles for a month access is no longer applicable, i was going on old info.

There is a ticket system within the discord where i assume you can ask for clarification/appeal punishments that happen on the discord. It’s at the top of the channel list under the “Support” category.

It is thoroughly out of step with virtually every other game forum however…

You might also say it whittles it down to an echo chamber - since those who no longer play the game can no longer express why they might not do so.

A potential player who might be interested in the game but has a few questions is bang out of luck. Sorry - we don’t let you speak unless you jump through a few hoops first!

Anything that makes it harder for people to use a forum for it’s intended purpose ‘a FORUM’ is counter-productive. After all, the dictionary definition of Forum is ‘public discussion’.

Just look at leaving any comments on any news item. All pre-moderated and it is down to the whims of the mods (which can vary a GREAT deal) whether a valid comment is just straight up binned.

Maybe one of the reasons the Discord Idea backfired so spectacularly is that Gaijin have thought they could apply the same degree to control of a far less controllable platform such as Discord. Which they can’t. It really doesn’t work like that.

Especially not if some clever bright spark decides to allow it to become a free-for-all by not enabling half the content controls…

Does that still work? I’ve tried it many times but always after a week it says I’m not an active player.

It should as far as i know, sometimes the game to forum info transfer is a little behind on updating though. In those cases playing one more match usually solves it.

Edit:
Updated previous answer, i was going on old info. Only the 3 battles = 1 week is applicable.

Finally
Edit: ok it looks like quite a mid server so far but better than nothing (maybe not)

They need to step their game up:

  • More chats for tec trees and nations
  • the ability to name VCs to make squadding up easier (see the unofficial WT discord)
  • possibly a subsection for datamines from Gszabi
  • maybe even an extension of the forums

This is THE war thunder discord and as you said, it is lackluster
