The P204 is a new vehicle from the last update, they started researching the 234 before the update came out.
Why it took them so long to research is another question

You can research something and not buy it.
You can’t research something if you haven’t bought the previous vehicle. Or at least you couldn’t last time I checked
You just need to research what’s before it. You don’t need to BUY it. Trust me there’s a LOT of things I have researched and not bought.
Look at my F9F-5 to F8U-2 line you’ll see I haven’t bought any of them but researched straight through them.
You need to buy the previous to buy the new one,
